From a personal friend in Germany:

“We are all safe, so far. Thank you so much for cross-checking. In fact, 10 km straightline people are struggling and have lost everything and we are safe. Since 2nd world war, Germany has never experienced a natural catastrophe like that. Infrastructure along the Ahr Valley totally collapsed. But not only the Ahr valley, other regions in the Eifel are suffering by heavy rains, followed by floods. For sure, in the States you have had particulary the same incidents. Now it happens to us. A lovely valley, devastated . I just hope that all these people are strong enough to face and overcome the coming months. Great Support, Engagement from others is overwhelming and helps a lot.”
