Technically it's still morning time. It's going to be a hot one today. It already feels like 97°F or 36°C. Everyone just had their water refreshed and we even watered the pigs down.

We do not share other posts or events on our page, but this one hits close to home. We are very intertwined with many of the city workers in Semmes and this individual worker, this kid, needs help.

He was struck by a vehicle while mowing the right of way on a busy road. He's had to have surgery to relieve swelling and pressure in his cranium.

We ask for prayers and well wishes. IF you can help. IF you have any to spare. We ask you to think about donating to Alfy.

"At just 22 years old, Alfy's life changed in an instant when he was struck by a truck while working. He is currently in the ICU in Mobile, and the full extent of his injuries are still unknown.

We're asking for help to ease the financial burden on Alfy and his family during this difficult time. Every donation, share. And prayer makes a difference."

Guinea Fowl Update!

A little mystery around the homestead has finally been solved.

For the last several weeks, our guinea pair had decided that the tongue of our camper was the perfect place to roost every night. We weren't sure why they preferred it over all the other options available, but they seemed perfectly content there.

Then one morning we found guinea feathers scattered across the ground and realized our guinea hen had been attacked by a predator during the night. Thankfully, she survived the encounter, but we had no idea what had gotten after her.

A couple of nights later, our neighbor sent us a picture of a HUGE owl hanging around their chicken coop, and suddenly the pieces started coming together. While we can't say with 100% certainty that the owl was the culprit, it certainly became our prime suspect!

The good news is that our guinea pair appears to have learned an important lesson. They have abandoned their camper-roosting habits and have now moved into the sheep barn at night where they have much better protection from aerial predators.

And there's even more good news...
Our resilient guinea hen has started over! She has built a brand-new nest and has begun laying her second clutch of eggs. After losing her first nest, it's exciting to see her giving motherhood another try.

Nature can be tough, but these birds continue to impress us with their determination.
Now we're keeping our fingers crossed that this nest has a much happier ending than the first one! 🐓🥚🦉🤞

About a month ago, two unexpected visitors showed up at Mimi & Poppy's Place and decided our homestead was where they wanted to stay. 🐦🐦

A male and female guinea fowl wandered onto the farm and quickly made themselves at home. They've spent their days patrolling the property, helping with bug control, and adding a little extra entertainment to our daily chores.

Recently, the female guinea found a secluded spot and built herself a nest. Before long, she had laid over a dozen eggs! Unfortunately, life on the homestead can be tough, and the nest fell victim to several predators... including our ever-curious farm dog, Stella. 🐕😅

Just when we thought all hope was lost, we were able to recover what appears to be four viable eggs from the nest. Those eggs are now safely tucked away in the incubator, and we're keeping our fingers crossed that we'll soon have a few guinea keets running around the farm.

Nature always finds a way to keep things interesting around here. Stay tuned for updates as we wait to see if these surprise eggs hatch!

Have any of you ever hatched guinea fowl eggs before? We'd love to hear your tips and experiences in the comments!

Good luck to those four little eggs!
