🦪 Four parts of our shellfish team. One great opportunity to connect 🦪

We’re excited to be attending the Pacific Coast Shellfish Growers Association Conference at 📍Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine, September 13–17!

PCSGA gives us a unique opportunity to bring our hatchery, FLUPSY, harvest, and sales teams together under one roof. Just as importantly, allows us to connect in person with others working across the shellfish industry.

If you’ll be at PCSGA, come find us! We’d love to meet fellow growers, harvesters, hatchery folks, buyers, and industry partners so we can swap ideas, and talk all things shellfish. 🌊

See you at Semiahmoo! 🦪

(Oyster Seed)

Today we had our hands full at work- literally!
The crew planted 500k oyster seed (woah 🤯) from our very own FLUPSY 🦪

🦪 Oyster Seed 101 🦪

🌊“What is oyster seed?”
Tiny oysters! 🦪 Oyster seed is juvenile oysters that have grown large enough to be moved from the FLUPSY to their growing grounds.

🌊"Why are they releasing it from the boat?”
Because that's how we plant it! Though, there's not much "planting" involved and mostly just even distribution over the top of the growing area.

🌊“Do oysters just… stay there?”
Pretty much! 😂 Once they settle onto the bottom, they spend their days filtering water, growing, and doing their oyster thing!

🌊“How long until they're ready to harvest?”
That depends on the oyster, growing conditions, location, and a whole bunch of other factors. It can take a couple of years for oysters to reach harvest size.

🦪 From seed to shellfish 🦪
Today’s tiny oysters are tomorrow’s harvest. Every planting is another step in bringing locally grown shellfish from our waters to your table. 🌊➡️🦪➡️🍽️

"For anyone who may be apprehensive about joining a PCSGA Walk the Hill event, I cannot recommend it enough." — Nate Tsao

In the latest issue of Longlines, Jamestown Seafood's Nate Tsao reflects on his experience attending PCSGA's Walk on the Hill in Washington, D.C.

What began as a trip outside his comfort zone became an opportunity to learn from industry leaders, build lasting relationships, and gain a deeper appreciation for advocating on behalf of the shellfish industry.

We're proud of Nate for representing Jamestown Seafood and sharing his perspective with the Pacific Coast Shellfish Growers Association! His story is a reminder that some of the most meaningful opportunities begin just outside our comfort zone.
