Farming and gardening looks a bit different this year since we lost the land we used and had to sell off the cows but we are happy and still finding plenty to do. The boys and I started seeds inside this year, we have a rooster now and good laying hens, and the garden got tilled up today. If the rain holds off we should have potatoes planted by the weekend. Thankful for warmer and sunny weather.

Jack has always had a little bit of a green thumb. He had a project in school where they planted pumkin seeds a couple weeks ago. We told him it wouldn’t grow because it wasn’t the season and he said “yes it will”. He’s careful to make sure we water it and makes sure its getting afternokn sun and he checks on it every day. He loves anything to do with outdoors.

Apple season Ioneof my favorite times of the year except that means winter is right around the corner. Making apple cider with the leftover peels and cores from applesauce and apple pie filling. Fig tree is huge now and finally starting to die off fo the year but not before giving us a lot of fruit this summer. Chickens are finally laying and we now have a rooster to go with the hens.

Yesterday was a sad day. The cows left the farm. I’m not happy at all that they left but I’m glad they went where they did. They have a beautiful farm to roam, good grass, and great caretakers. These cows have been my babies and my buddies through rough times. When we adopted our boys the cows could calm me down. Shilo the bull was tiny when I brought him home in the bed of my truck 3 years ago. Now he’s a 1500lb baby. Someday we will get more cows but for now we will have to settle for occasional visits to their new home. n

Can’t get enough of these cows. Sleek and healthy and I’m thankful they are.

Finally dried out enough to get in the gardens again. We’ve planted beans, field corn, pumpkins, guards, watermelons, muskmelons, and sunflowers as well as peppers and rhubarb. Getting good garden rains on it all now.

Good days gardening and farming. Picked all the cabbages then planted beans behind that. Dug potatoes in the very small patch at our house. Replanted okra and put in a row of sunflowers. Sold three calves right off the farm a few days ago. It’s a sellers market right now but I was sad to see them go. Lots to do in the next few days so I’m praying the rain holds off for a little while longer. As always I included a picture of the big bull just because he’s so gentle and pretty.

Way behind on the gardens this year. Started early but the rain has the weeds growing faster than the plants. Cows are looking great though especially the big bull that is actually just a big baby.
