We are getting SO close to Sheetrock going up, which means this is basically our last chance to add all those little things we’ll kick ourselves for forgetting later!

So I need all my seasoned home builders, remodelers, electricians, and ā€œI wish I would’veā€¦ā€ people to HELP ME OUT!

What should we add BEFORE the walls are closed up?!

I’m thinking things like extra outlets, outlets in closets/pantry, TV outlets, extra lighting, blocking in the walls for heavy things we may hang later… but I KNOW there are things I haven’t thought of.

Tell me your ā€œI’m SO glad we added thisā€ OR your ā€œI wish we would’ve thought of this before Sheetrockā€ ideas!

Nothing is too small or too random. šŸ˜‚ I want ALL the suggestions because once these walls are closed… IT’S TOO LATE!

Drop your must haves below! I’m making a list!

There’s something so special to me about the thought of family, friends, and every guest who walks through our front door being welcomed by a cross.

We’ve put so much thought into this home & not just how we want it to look, but how we want it to feel. We want it to be a home filled with love, family, laughter, prayer, and most importantly, Jesus.

So the idea of placing a cross right in the entry feels like such a beautiful reminder of WHO we want at the center of this home from the very moment you walk in.

We are seriously considering doing something similar in our entryway. Not necessarily copying this exact design, but creating a special wood pattern with a cross incorporated into the center and then transitioning into the hardwood throughout the rest of the house.

When we started building this home, we knew we wanted it to be more than just a beautiful house. We wanted the little details throughout it to tell our story and represent the things that matter most to us. And I can’t think of a more meaningful way to welcome people into our home than with a quiet reminder of the One we pray will always be at the center of everything that happens inside these walls.

Now to get Randy polished up on his floor laying skills. šŸ˜

LVP vs. Solid Hardwood… WHY IS THIS SO HARD?!

Of all the decisions we’ve had to make building this house, I honestly think choosing our flooring has been one of the HARDEST so far!

We keep going back and forth between LVP and solid hardwood, because there are things we love about BOTH.

LVP:
āœ”ļø More affordable
āœ”ļø Waterproof/water-resistant options
āœ”ļø Durable with kids, grandbabies, pets & farm life
āœ”ļø Easier to maintain
āŒ Doesn’t have quite the same feel or character as real wood
āŒ Can’t be sanded and refinished years down the road
āŒ Depending on the product, it may not have the same longevity as hardwood

SOLID HARDWOOD:
āœ”ļø It’s REAL wood — and there’s just something about it
āœ”ļø Beautiful, timeless and full of character
āœ”ļø Can be sanded and refinished multiple times
āœ”ļø With proper care, it can last for generations
āŒ More expensive
āŒ Water and moisture can be a concern
āŒ Scratches and dents easier — especially when you actually LIVE in your house
āŒ A little more maintenance

We’re building this as our forever home, so part of me thinks, Go with the hardwood. Put it down once and let it age with the house.

But then the practical side of me thinks about farm life, muddy shoes, future grandbabies, spills and everyday living and says, Girl…get the LVP.

I seriously cannot decide!

So help us out! šŸ‘‡šŸ¼ If you were building your forever home TODAY, which would you choose: LVP or SOLID HARDWOOD?

And if you already have one or the other, tell me what you LOVE about it…and what you wish you had known before you chose it!

Choosing a house plan was WAY harder than we thought it would be.

We knew going into this that this would be our last house. The one we grow old in. And somehow, knowing that made every decision feel a little bigger.

This time, we weren’t choosing a house based only on what worked for our family right now. We were trying to picture our life 10, 20, even 30 years from now.

We thought about getting older and making sure this home would still work for us someday. We thought about holidays and Sunday dinners. We thought about our boys coming home with families of their own.

And even though we don’t have grandbabies yet, you better believe I was already thinking about them.

I pictured little feet running through the house, toys scattered across the living room, cousins growing up together on the farm, sleepovers, Christmas mornings, and a kitchen full of people we love.

So we changed plans. Then changed them again. We even changed the plan of the plan we chose šŸ˜‚. And probably drove each other a little crazy in the process.

Because we realized we weren’t just choosing a floor plan.

We were choosing the backdrop for the next chapter of our lives.

A home built for the two of us as we grow older—but with plenty of room for the family we pray will keep growing around us.

This isn’t just our forever home.

It’s the home we hope our future grandbabies will someday call Mimi & Papaw’s house. ā¤ļø

Every home has a story. This is ours. šŸ¤Ž

What started as an empty piece of ground and a dream is slowly becoming the place we hope our family calls home for generations.

There have already been dirt piles, concrete trucks, framing crews, changing plans, plenty of decisions, a few ā€œwhat have we gotten ourselves into?ā€ moments šŸ˜‚ and a whole lot of memories made along the way.

But this page isn’t just about building a house.

It’s about creating our homeplace.

A place for our kids to always come home to. A place for family to gather. A place for loud dinners, holidays, grandbabies someday, sunsets on the porch, and ordinary days that we’ll probably realize later were some of the very best ones.

We’re already well into the build, so I have LOTS to catch you up on—and from here on out, I’m bringing you along for all of it. The progress, the decisions, the things that go wrong, the things that turn out better than we imagined, decorating it room by room, and eventually…turning this house into HOME.
