Been busy this spring setting up swarm traps. A friend tells me it’s like fishing. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose but the net always empty if you don’t try. Covering Jackson and Jennings county.

January 28, 2023 11:00 AM 48 degrees and bees are happy out and about. Three days of partial sunshine this week. Bees don’t like coming out on cold days unless they see the sun. Today we have sun which is good for me and the bees.

January 24, 2023. Learning about my bees. 38 degrees, sunny and they are coming out of there home. Cleansing flight this morning and they are out and about. Too cold for any food source but they take pollen substitute pretty good.

A few days ago my son took this picture in our bee yard. We have a lot of deer.

Welcome to our little Apiary here in Acme, Indiana where we share our land with about 240,000 honey bees. Each of our hives has about 40,000 to 50,000 bees with one queen. They work together to produce honey and new bees. The queen lays eggs at the rate of about 1000-1500 eggs per day. Nurse bees take care of the brood by feeding them, keeping them with the right temperature so they can emerge on day 21 as nurse bees. Every day inside the hive new bees emerge and start their daily duties.. These bees each will produce about a 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in their life of about 35 days. A Honey bee visits about 2 million flowers in their life and the whole hive travels something like 55 thousand miles to bring you a pound of honey. That’s a lot of traveling and work.
