Happy almost Summer, friends! ☀️
We unfortunately bring bad news for the short term, but optimistic good news for the long term 😊
Normally this is the post where we’ve dialed in our U-Pick events and are gearing up for the busy season! Unfortunately this year we must announce NO major crop this year. This means no U-Pick events, no wreath making classes, and no photography. 😢
We’re working with the Missouri Extension to get a better grasp on some of the “why” but it appears we suffered 99% plant death on our 6 year old plants. Right now we suspect a combination of plant age and the bizarre winter we had, specifically that one very wet and heavy snow we had. The longer, woody plants did not like the weight and pressure.
Heartbreaking news for sure, as we’ve done quite well managing these plants over the years so to see such a huge wipe out is a bit discouraging.
We have a few commitments to some of our customers carried over from last year that we’re hoping to be able to meet with some of our 2 year old plants. We’ll get a better feel and be able to confirm those in the coming weeks.
Future plans however are bright! We expect to start a full on re-plant later this year bringing up to 4 different varieties in to the mix. This will afford us a much longer blooming season and more variety for fresh cut flowers and oil production. This re-plant will allow us to put in to practice a lot of the lessons learned over the last 5-6 years and we’re optimistic for many more great seasons in future years!
For those looking forward to this upcoming season, we’re super bummed and we’re so sorry this year will be a bust. Stay tuned for more updates here as we start working through our re-planting efforts.
