A Partnership Between Hendrix Honey and The Story Inn
Some partnerships just make sense. When a third-generation landmark and a seasoned beekeeper find each other, the result isn't
just honey — it's history in a jar.
The Story Inn has been a fixture of Brown County, Indiana since 1851. Nestled in the rolling hills and hardwood forests of Story,
Indiana, it has welcomed travelers, fed hungry guests, and held its ground through generations of change. What it hadn't done —
until now — was keep bees.
That changed this season, thanks to Hendrix Honey.
Bryan Hendrix is the man behind Hendrix Honey, a beekeeping operation out of Seymour, Indiana, with a backyard full of hives
and a deep respect for the work that happens inside them. When the opportunity came to place colonies on the Story Inn's farm,
he didn't hesitate. He loaded his hives onto a trailer, hauled them into Brown County, and set them down in the middle of some of
the most beautiful and biologically rich land in the state.
The bees took to it immediately.
Brown County's landscape is a forager's paradise — wild meadows, ancient hardwoods, and fence rows thick with wildflowers
that bloom in succession from spring through fall. Bryan's colonies fanned out across it all, working tulip poplar, clover, black
locust, catalpa, and a hundred other blooms that grow undisturbed in these hills. Here's what most people don't realize — it takes
a single bee visiting five hundred flowers just to make one drop of nectar. Multiply that across an entire hive working all season
long, and every jar of Hendrix Honey represents approximately two million flower visits. Two million. That's not a figure of
speech. That's the math behind every spoonful.
The Story Inn purchased the harvest outright, and guests can now find Hendrix Honey on the shelves — a local product in the
truest sense of the word. Not shipped in, not blended. Made right here, this season, on this land, by bees that flew no farther than
the tree line and back.
For Bryan, the satisfaction is simple. Hendrix Honey provided the bees. The Story Inn provided the land. Brown County provided
the flowers. And together, they made something worth tasting.
