Currently we are retailing fresh cut trees at Knoebel’s Christmas Village located at Knoebel’s Three Ponds Golf course in Elysburg, PA.

On Spruce, Fir & Pine tree species, new growth occurs from late April until mid-July. Depending on the specie & weather during this period new growth can be as much as 12 inches. On some Douglas Fir at the end of the growth period, they will have a second burst of growth that looks like lighted tips. This is normally referred to as a “second flush”. I see it as nature’s tree lights.

Douglas fir being planted in the field that was previously our ConColor field.
Interesting fact: the top soil that was used to top-dress the newly planted trees came from a decomposed mound of Christmas trees that needed to be cleared when it was purchased by Shale Ridge Farm in 1999.

After getting a soil analysis fertilizers were applied to prepare for the new trees!

Every year we lose 30-40 trees to deer damage. This is a Fraser fir destroyed by a buck rub.
