My mentor farmer Fred came by this morning to buy some piglets. I was left feeling humbled, watching things come full circle. He gave us our first breeding sow 7 years ago. He taught me most of what I know about pigs. He was giving me more advice even today because that’s what a good mentor does. We talked about how far we’ve come and how much the farm has grown. We talked about how hard it’s been and how we almost shut down several times this year. He said he would help however he can, and I gave him the same appreciative smile I always do, and said what I always say “you’ve already done so much”. We said our goodbyes and I walked up ahead of his truck to open and close the gate behind him. As he was pulling out he paused, rolled his window down and said “keep that smile on everyday”. I gave him a big grin and said - “I will, everyday, still blessed”. He flashed me a soft smile and a wave and took off. He is such an inspiration. I have been having an exceptionally difficult few weeks and it just goes to show, God sends us angels in all different forms, just when we need them most.
