Contamination in water well drilling is always an issue we face in certain areas. When drilling close to the ocean, like in this video, we must use different strategies to ensure we follow all standards that are in place in accordance with the NJDEP. This well was double-cased, meaning we drilled a large outer casing (8") down to a confining layer like clay to prevent any saltwater contamination due to the location. Once this has been done, we then cement grout the well in place to ensure no contaminants can ever reach the aquifer below. Lastly, we drill the production 4-inch well inside of the protective casing. Double-cased wells are used to prevent many different contaminants from entering our water supply. They must be done to the correct NJDEP standards so we can ensure our future generations will still have clean, safe drinking water.
