Sharon Town Garden

Sharon Town Garden Our mission is to provide education and access to sustainable nutrition, reduce waste levels, and decrease chemical use on the soil in our watershed.

Permanently closed.

We believe that educating our youth about sustainable agriculture is important for healthy growth in the local economy and in human character development. By providing an organic garden at the Sharon Town Beach, daycare attendees and beach-goers alike can have the opportunity to reach the next level of horticultural knowledge. Not only will residents be able to learn about sustainable agriculture,

but Little Rascals will have easier access to more nutritional and healthy foods. We would like this program to be completely independent of outside financing at some point, but for right now donations for the educational garden will be gladly accepted and greatly appreciated. In order to produce organic fertilizer for our garden, we will use a vermicomposting technique, but we don't have sufficient population numbers just yet. There are a number of ways you can help out our cause: volunteering to garden or teach, talking about your business or organization (farm, restaurant, etc...), donating supplies(garden tools, shovels, hoses, buckets, fencing, etc...), starting your own compost at home, or if you would like to fund this operation directly, please call either of the numbers on our card. Thank you for your time. -J & M

Check out this incredible tool invented by Eliot Coleman! For $30 you can prepare cubes for an infinite supply of seedlings, no need for pesky plastic trays that keep on breaking. I use a blend of aged lake w**d and used/sifted potting soil... Works like a charm.

Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely barrage of colors the northeast has to offer. Although the growing season is coming to an end there are still plenty of things happening at the Sharon Town Garden. We have officially planted bed #3 with two types of garlic which will be harvested mid June- early July. We used a technique called sheet mulching to prepare this bed, absolutely NO WEEDING was required. There are also plenty of strawberries, cherry tomatoes, fresh arugula, lettuce, and mustard greens begging to be picked before the frost this weekend. Our fall planting of mustard greens, red lettuce, arugula, tatsoi, and pac choy have been steadily growing and can be harvested as tender micro greens or left alone to grow a bit more. There will be a frost this weekend and much of these veggies will not continue to grow so don't feel bad about picking anything due to small size. Enjoy some fresh, local, produce grown in lake w**d compost, people! It doesn't get better than this... Absolutely NO CHEMICALS or synthetic fertilizers/pesticides were used in the production of these veggies.
