Better Late than Never!

As I write this, we've had about 3 inches of rain and the high temps today and tomorrow is 60 degrees.  It's a kind of a preview for upcoming attractions. With 80 degree temps yet ahead, there's still some summer left, but harvest is soon here. Our area has been blessed with good moisture ...

Ever wonder how Graze-N-Grow got started. Here's Jim telling his story. What a great example of continuing to learn new knowledge and adjust to that knowledge! Seems like many are stuck in their ways whether out of convenience or ignorance.

Paul Saladino, MD shared a post on Instagram: "Is grass fed beef worth the extra cost? I think it absolutely is, but very few understand how these two foods differ. Nutritionally, grass-fed beef and grain-fed beef (which is finished on grain at the end of its life) are pretty similar, and both of th...

Here's Jim explaining one reason he raises his beef and sheep on grass and not grain!

08/15/2022

I remember growing up on the farm in the 50's and 60's. There was no such things as grain farms. All farms, big or small, had livestock. Some were dairy farms or pig farms or beef operations. The common factor was all the farms had their animals roaming the land. Now, it's rare to see any farmstead with animals visible. They are there, but not like they used to be. Those with chicken, hogs, or cattle keep them sheltered in sheds their whole lives.

We NEED to have animals out on the soil under the sun. It's important to have the chickens scratching for insects, the pigs rooting for whatever they find, and the cows and sheep grazing on the grass. Leaving the saliva on the grass as well as their droppings all contribute to the soil's health. It also contributes to the animals well-being!

Here at Graze-N-Grow we still do it the old way even while using modern inventions like poly wire fencing and plastic water piping to bring water to every field. The health of our animals without the use of modern pharmaceuticals is important to us. Why change a system that is meant to benefit the health of our animals, soil, and ultimately us?!
