The fair has tuckered out the yearlings! They'll be happy to sleep in their own barn tonight. But they've had a great time teaching folks at the Champlain Valley Fair all about Shetland sheep!

I have to pinch myself that this is the view from my back porch. This is my kind of summer weather, low 70s, steady breeze, sun (and a few quick showers). Perfection! Everyone got moved to fresh pasture this morning, and the dogs always love a good porch sit session.

Our alpha ram Major, a pretty fitting name for a stunning Shetland ram. This one's for you Donna! Bred at Kindred Spirit Farm by Donna Carlucci Major came to us last year and we have used him as a sire for some of our lambs. Isn't he striking?! I just snapped this picture while I was out doing chores as a storm is rolling in.

Cutest little sheep hauler around! Maxine (our awesome ) has helped in countless ways around the farm in just the two weeks that we've had her. Isauld and Huntley are heading off to their new farm this weekend, and they were waaaaayyyy out in the field grazing with the rest of the flock. So I loaded them up in Maxine and brought them back up to the barn. They'll get pedicures and checked all over, and I'll run fecals on them too. I like to send my sheep off to their new farms in tip-top shape! I think some of the other sheep were jealous that they didn't get to go for a ride... I also brought in Herra, Inverness, and Illeray, as they'll be getting health certificates and rabies vx done soon so they can go to Champlain Valley Fair in September. Whew, it's been a busy day on the farm, I spent the morning putting up hay for the winter months! There's always something to do on the farm, always!

I'd like to introduce you to Alba! Alba was born in late June, a bit of a surprise lamb. Her mom and sister came to the farm in March. Her mom, Elizabeth, is a bit of a rebel and fence jumper and decided to have a little rendezvous with the rams sometime in January before she came to our farm. I noticed Lizzy's udder was coming in, and I had been warned that she might possibly be pregnant. Low and behold early morning on June 26th, this little champ was born out in the pasture after a heavy night of rain. So Alba - Latin for dawn when she was born and also Gaelic for Scotland - fitting as she's a Shetland sheep! We've been enjoying her antics for almost a month now. She's a very independent, curious, mischievous little one who loves to pester her aunties and older sister!
