It's been a crazy spring and lambing season. I haven't had the chance to post much because we've been flat-out busy! We've been getting our previous property all cleaned out as we sold it last week. That's basically been a full-time job in itself and add the busy spring lambing season and I was a zombie, no idea what day it was! Thank goodness that is behind us, now I can share the cuteness of the lambs with you! Out of the 22 bred ewes, 16 have lambed so far (I'll get pictures of the other 3 ewes lambs soon!). We have 27 lambs at the moment, 16 rams and 11 ewes. Some spectacular fleeces, spots, patterns and colors! We have a list for lambs, so let me know if you are looking!

Lambing has begun! Of course, because I had to be off the farm yesterday, Holly went into labor and delivered two beautiful ewe lambs, right in the middle of the afternoon. Everyone is happy and healthy, and Holly is a champ. She is one of my most favorite ewes. She came to us from She's a fantastic mom and gives us really lovely lambs.

Well... we're going to have at least two fewer sheep for and .siegmund to shear next week. Many Shetland sheep (a primitive breed) have retained the ability to shed their fleeces naturally, called rooing. Both little Nista and Elphin, seen in pictures 1 & 2, are ewe lambs born last spring. The rise is the point where the new fleece begins growing in behind the previous years' fleece, and in picture 3, you can see the very distinctive line of the rise. A natural weak spot or break happens at that point, and the fleece can be gently plucked or rolled and separated from the new growth. I often see the rise in rams this early in the season, but not usually the ewes! I just have to finish up Nista's belly, but clearly, Elphin needs a bit more work! 😅

I'm heading to March 8th at this is my first time vending there!! As much as Pommy would love to go on an adventure with me, he would be a menace (especially now that he's all grown up)! I'll have our lovely, soft Shetland yarn, roving, and kits, as well as my handmade sheep's milk soap and wool pellets, too. I'm really looking forward to the event and catching up with friends and seeing all of the other wonderful Farms and Fibers!

We got a little bit of snow, and it's still coming down! Abby thinks it pretty great, and the sheep are content to nibble away at their hay!
