Lulu says hay everyone! It's spring time on the farm and it is a busy time (just like the rest of the year). Many of you all are probably waiting for an announcement about strawberries. Unfortunately, we will not be opening this year for strawberry picking.

Please understand that this was a difficult decision to make as we planted our first field in 2010. I will be focusing more time and energy on cattle and hay. I can't help but think about all of the great people that we have been able to share our farm with. We truly THANK YOU for your support over the years!

I also can't help but think of how our family farm has adjusted and changed over the years. Please find and support family farms around our community as most of them, like ours, are worked by people that have a full time job off of the farm. It's a reality that many face, but they do it because they truly want to work with God's creation and provide for their community. So, for now, we will miss our strawberry customers. We hope to see you all in the fall for pumpkins! And hopefully someday we will be able to bring them back.

Haven't posted a farm update in a while so I took a picture while putting out hay today. A common question I get is how do we take care of the cows when it's this cold? Do we put them all in a barn?

Well here is that answer. We make sure they get their daily feed for energy and plenty of hay. They even get some alfalfa square bales. Cattle are built for this weather. As long as they have access to plenty to eat and some fresh water, they are good. I also unroll some hay to give them a dry place to lay down for the night. We even had a calf born this past Sunday night while all that snow and sleet was coming down. He's been running around playing with the other calves (video of calves playing will be in the comments). So that brings me to my last point. Another key to taking care of cattle in any kind of weather is having good momma cows. Momma cow of the week goes to #22 for having her calf on the worst night but having him on some rolled out hay and keeping him warm and alive!
