Fresh Sourdough Storage Tips (with a Bonus Pro Tip!)

Our sourdough is made with simple ingredients and contains no preservatives, so proper storage makes a big difference—especially during the summer heat and humidity.

For the best flavor and texture:
✅ Enjoy within 2–3 days if kept at room temperature.
✅ Store cut-side down on a cutting board or in a bread box.
✅ Avoid refrigerating—it actually makes bread go stale faster.

Want to keep it longer?
❄️ Slice and freeze it. Frozen sourdough keeps beautifully for several months. Simply thaw a slice on the counter or pop it in the toaster when you're ready to enjoy it.

💡 Pro Tip: Reheating a Frozen Loaf

- Thaw your frozen sourdough loaf on the counter.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Run the entire loaf under the faucet for 10–15 seconds.
- Place it directly on the middle oven rack for about 10 minutes.
- Remove, slice, and enjoy.

The result is surprisingly close to a freshly baked loaf with a crisp crust and soft interior.

Don't think you'll finish it all? Don't toss it! Sourdough makes incredible toast, grilled cheese, French toast, croutons, breadcrumbs, and more.

Have you tried Hakurei (salad) turnips yet?

These aren’t your grandma’s turnips! Hakurei turnips are sweet, crisp, and mild enough to eat raw right out of the field. They’re delicious sliced into salads, roasted, sautéed, or simply enjoyed as a fresh snack.

They’re packed with vitamin C, fiber, and other nutrients, and both the roots and greens are edible. The tender greens are excellent in salads, stir-fries, or lightly sautéed.

If you’ve never tried a salad turnip before, this is the perfect time to discover one of our favorite spring and early summer vegetables!

Tomorrow is the first week of the Grandville Farmers Market!! 9-1am. We’re excited to join the Grandville/ Jenison community in the mission of local life giving foods!

If you’re new to our farm, welcome! We are a small farmstead in Shelbyville, Mi. I (Branden) grew up in Jenison and I have a passion for local, fresh, and life giving produce. We practice organic, no till, and sustainable farming methods. We never have and will never use any synthetic or chemical herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers. We believe that feeding the soil is the key to nutritious and healthy produce. Everything we sell is started and grown by our family for you to enjoy right on our farm!

In additions, my wife (Mae) has been perfecting her sourdough process for almost 8 years and loves to share her goodies!! Our sourdough loaves are made with fresh milled hard red wheat giving it more flavor and nutritional goodness. You’re not going to want to just walk past it. Flour. Salt. Water. That’s it!

I’ll be posting a fresh list later tonight so you know exactly what you’re going find tomorrow!!

🥬 A Quick Note About Your Salad Greens 🥬

We often get asked if our lettuce is pre-rinsed.

The answer is: sometimes, but not always.

If needed, we’ll give our salad greens a rinse after harvest. However, if the lettuce is already clean and dry in the field, we often skip rinsing it to help preserve freshness and shelf life.

Because our lettuce is grown in real soil with compost and without excessive processing, it’s completely normal to occasionally find a bit of compost, soil, or even a tiny bug hiding among the leaves. That’s just part of eating food grown close to nature!

We recommend giving your lettuce a quick wash before eating, according to your preference. Some don’t and some do!

A simple rinse in cold water and a quick spin or pat dry is usually all it takes.

Thanks for supporting local food and knowing exactly where your vegetables come from! 🌱
