There’s a lot of talk about AI taking people’s jobs, and we refuse to believe it could ever replace the heart and soul of small family farms. This Labor Day, we’re especially grateful for our staff’s dedication and all of our loyal customers that keep us in business. Here’s to 100 more years of laboring at Laurel Glen Farm!

This time of year, our cooler holds $5 bags of “seconds.” This imperfect produce is discounted because it may be blemished, discolored, or have soft spots - but it’s still perfectly safe and enjoyable to eat. This batch includes peaches, peppers, cucumbers, and also sometimes holds eggplant, beets, and more. We also have a table of $5 bags of tomato “seconds” which may be soft or cracked.

One last round of pick-your-own peaches this Saturday, 8/29 from 10-12 at 475 Booth Hill Road. $10 per bag, which holds about 3 lbs. of peaches (this massive one was 1.25 lbs!) We’ll post again or send an email in case of a cancellation. How about a bag for your child’s new teacher to show how much you “a-peach-iate” them?

We’re saying goodbye to our summer crew members with feelings of sadness and gratitude. All good things must come to an end, and as we wrap up August, Alex, Audrey, and Jona will leave the farm to resume their studies (though Jona will still be at markets this fall!) This year our gratitude is even greater as they helped hold down the farm when we welcomed our newborn daughter. Every day they’ve been committed to making the farm more successful in countless ways and we know that they’ll continue to give that same level of effort in all that they do!

Cousin Danielle does it all! From taking care of our chickens, to picking up and delivering orders, to cleaning up garlic, she’s always willing to lend a hand. This week she’s even delivering a load of 1,000 lbs. of tomatoes to our processor in New Haven to be made into more “Just a Crush”. Danielle keeps morale high around here!

Luna joined the crew this week! Many people think farms are winding down, but the truth is we’re ramping UP. Now through October is our busiest time of year and we need all hands on deck to pull it off. Peppers, watermelon, fall squashes, lettuce, and potatoes haven’t even arrived yet - there are still so many good veggies to come. Subscribe to our mailing list to receive a weekly availability list, and be sure to give Luna a warm welcome.

A fan favorite just hit the farm stand - husk cherries! These are a relative of the tomato. You peel back the husk and there’s a sweet fruit inside with a mystery flavor: a little bit tropical, but similar to a grape? What do you think it tastes like?
