WELCOME, our farm in the beautiful White Hills section of Shelton, Connecticut. It is a family owned and operated organic farm which has been farmed by the same family for six generations. Our farm is dedicated to providing healthy seedlings, food and beauty to you and your family. In 1750, the history of this White Hills farm began with the town's noted Revolutionary leader, Major Agur Judson, f
ollowed by the Downs' family in the early 19th century and then to Stephen Beardsley in 1850; it is a history that continues forward towards its 275th Anniversary. With the passing of our beloved Guy Beardsley, Guy's Eco-Garden is being lead into the future by the fifth generation of the Beardsley family, Janelle Beardsley, and her husband, Ed Wittkofski. The farm has seen the history of the America pass before its doors, it was the farmstead of Shelton's revolutionary leader and successful land-owner, Agur Judson and was where the French Cavalry of the Duc de Lauzun marched on its way to the Franco-American Victory at Yorktown, Virginia in 1781. It has always worked to serve the community. From crops, sheep, a country farm store with its regular carriage visits by "General Thomas Thumb", hard cider production, turkeys, dairy, organic vegetables to herbs, flowers, and lavender; the life of the farm continues to evolve with the needs of the time. We hope to include you as part of our heritage, and we look forward to serving you and the community. Yet, at the same time, we are beginning to re-institute some of the traditional ways as a way to ground our community in its historic and traditional past. From Agur and Mehitabel Judson to Guy and Pat Beardsley, we honor all of those who labored to make this farm an enduring part of the Shelton Community.
*When organic certification became available, we were certified in 1991 by the Connecticut Northeast Organic Farmers Association and when the National Organic Program began, we were certified by Baystate Organic Certifiers. We no longer carry that formal certification, but as a small farm, we continue to operate under special rules within the National Organic Program.
*Along the scenic Connecticut Route 110 (Leavenworth Road), in the White Hills of Shelton, Connecticut, the farm provides beautiful vistas and warm wholesome feelings of the traditional ways of Connecticut's rural history.
*Through a variety of programs on and off-farm, we have been committed, through the years, to educating the public and growers of simple gardens to full scale farms in the practices of Organic Farming and sustainable living. It would be our greatest pleasure to serve you.
*We hope to bring the return of traditional rural life and skills to our community. In this way, our goal is to remind the community of its role in the early history of this nation and enrich the lives of our customers and our friends.
*Now that we are almost a quarter of the way through the 21st Century, the farm is continuing developing ways to keep alive the customs, culture, and traditions of this farm and serve the coming generations as the "The Farm" moves towards its third century.
