Informational post!!! Not a for sale post!

Let's do a fun informational post because it seems a few people who are nonchalantly watching my page think ๐Ÿค” they have a clue about who owns my kennel and who I co-own some dogs with. So let me break it down for them.First and foremost no one is invested other than me in NWR Kennels BESIDES ME, not even my other half. Not one cent! I have 3 co-own dogs and that's it. Everything else is mine and mine alone. I don't need other people hidden behind the scenes to help me do what I do. I AM THE BRAINS OF MY OPERATIONS!The 3 dogs I co-own all parties have ๐Ÿ’ฐ involved. That's how those work, there's a difference. But since you obviously need the definitions here you go!

The difference between co-owning a dog and having a kennel partner comes down to ownership versus business collaboration.
Co-Ownership
A co-owned dog is legally owned by two or more people.
Typical features:
Both parties are listed on registration papers (such as American Kennel Club or other registries).
Major decisions often require agreement from both owners.
Breeding rights, showing rights, and litter arrangements are usually outlined in a contract.
One person may have physical possession of the dog while both retain ownership.
Common when a breeder places a promising puppy in another home but wants breeding or show rights retained.
Example: NWR Kennels places a female puppy with another family. The family raises and cares for her, but NWR remains a co-owner and has agreed-upon breeding rights.
Kennel Partnership
A kennel partnership is a business or breeding relationship between two kennels.
Typical features:
May involve co-owning some dogs, but not necessarily.
Kennels work together on breeding programs, stud services, marketing, showing, or litter production.
Costs, profits, responsibilities, and breeding goals are often shared.
Each kennel may still own its own dogs independently.
Example: NWR Kennels and another kennel agree to produce a litter together. One kennel owns the sire, the other owns the dam. They share advertising, puppy placements, and expenses. The kennels are partners on the litter even if they don't co-own either dog.
Simple Breakdown
Co-Owner
Kennel Partner
Ownership relationship
Business/breeding relationship
Shares legal ownership of a dog
May or may not share ownership
Focused on a specific dog
Focused on a breeding program or project
Listed on registration papers
Usually not listed unless also a co-owner
Rights defined by dog contract
Rights defined by partnership agreement
Many breeders are both kennel partners and co-owners on certain dogs, but the two terms are not the same thing. A kennel partner works with you in your breeding program; a co-owner legally owns part of a dog.

As Merle and Harlequin Dobermans have become increasingly popular, many people ask where these bloodlines originated and how they became so widespread.

NWR Kennels has been one of the earliest and most influential programs working with Merle and Harlequin Doberman bloodlines. Through years of selective breeding, genetic testing, and careful record keeping, our dogs have helped establish and expand these unique color lines throughout the Doberman community.

Today, if you own, breed, or have seen a Merle or Harlequin Doberman, there is a strong possibility that somewhere in the pedigree you may find dogs that originated from NWR Kennels or bloodlines directly connected to our program. As these dogs have been bred, sold, and incorporated into breeding programs across the country, their influence has continued to spread from generation to generation.

While not every breeder openly discusses the origins of their Merle or Harlequin lines, the history of these bloodlines can often be traced back through pedigrees and breeding records. We are proud of the role NWR Kennels has played in developing and preserving these unique Dobermans and have always been transparent about the outcrosses and breeding decisions that helped create them.

At NWR Kennels, we believe honesty and education are important. We have never hidden the history behind our dogs. Instead, we have chosen to openly share the journey, the genetics, and the work that went into establishing these distinctive bloodlines.

Whether people agree with these colors or not, there is no denying that Merle and Harlequin Dobermans have become a recognized part of the modern Doberman conversation, and we are proud to have been a part of that history.

๐Ÿพ HOW DID MERLE & HARLEQUIN DOBERMANS COME TO BE? ๐Ÿพ

Many people ask where the Merle and Harlequin patterns in Dobermans originated.

The answer is simple: through intentional and carefully planned crossbreeding generations ago. The Merle gene traces back to the Catahoula Leopard Dog, while the Harlequin gene originated from the Great Dane. Through selective breeding and breeding back to Dobermans over multiple generations, these unique patterns were incorporated while maintaining the intelligence, loyalty, athleticism, and working ability that make a Doberman a Doberman.

At NWR Kennels, we believe in honesty and transparency. We are proud of the work that has gone into developing these unique bloodlines, and we have never hidden the fact that crossbreeding was used to introduce these traits. Rather than pretending these colors appeared naturally within the breed, we believe in educating people about their history and allowing them to make informed decisions.

We are proud of the generations of dedication, selection, and breeding that have gone into creating dogs that retain the Doberman's temperament, structure, and versatility while offering distinctive coat patterns that many families love.

Our goal has always been to be open about our program, preserve the traits that make Dobermans special, and continue improving our lines through responsible breeding practices.

โœจ Same heart. โœจ Same drive. โœจ Same loyalty. โœจ Extraordinary look.

Whether you agree with these colors or not, we believe honesty, transparency, and education should always come first.
