So wouldnt be a gardening season in Arkansas if a new pest didnt show up that I have never seen before....learned that these are blister beetles and they feed on plants in the nightshade family and are covering my remaining tomato plants. They also produce a chemical that can cause blisters on the skin hence the name. So not only do we get to deal with squash bugs now the blister beetles are taking over! 🙄😩

Despite the hear we are still getting tomatoes from our beefsteak and cherokee purple tomatoes plants. The 2nd round of tomato starts did not make it due to the heat so I have decided to leave those beds empty then replenish them and prep them for the fall garden. Unfortunately because of the heat not much is thriving right now.

Started some of my fall seeds in trays on Saturday and I already have broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts seedlings coming up. Really looking forward to the fall garden this year because its been a while since ive gotten to have a space dedicated to a true fall garden. The fall garden is my fav garden because its less hands on, cooler (by arkansas standards), and less pest pressure. So if youre not thinking about doing a fall garden I want to encourage you to try it because you just might enjoy it! 🌱☺️

Harvested 2 more tromboncino squash today to store for winter. Who needs weights when you can workout with produce?! 😌💪

So ive shared alot of my garden successes this year there but there were bound to be some failures too. While the honeynut plants did not have any vine borer damage this year they were however overrun with squash bugs. I tried to keep them at bay to get the ones on the vine ripe but alas I ended up with 2 usable honeynut squash from 2 whole plants. Also my dried corn stalks fell over and are probably not gonna give me any corn this year either. Some years you have great harvests on some things but not on others. At least I still have some tromboncinos to fall back on if I can get them to the cured storage stage before the squash bugs get them too. If you have failures dont give up try again! I will be sowing the honeynut beds with cowpeas until I need them for garlic in late fall. Keep growing yall! ❤️🌱

Also check out these really cool tie dye looking patterns on some of them. Planning to pull out the tomatoes next week and replace them with our fall tomato starts as these are finally starting to peter out. ❤️🍅🌱

Despite it being hotter than the Sahara desert outside and feeling like we now live in death valley, my tomatoes are still cranking right along. Here's a tip if youre dealing with pests specifically squash bugs the key is to pull your tomatoes when they get just the tiniest bit of blush to them bc they will continue to ripen on your counter and the flavor will be the same. If i dont pull mine early at first blush the bugs will get them. Just limping the plants along till it cools down and will pull them to put in my fall tomato starts.

This is my first year growing luffa gourd and boy did I underestimate its vigor! I planted just ONE plant on the right side of the trellis and ONE tromboncino on the left side of the trellis. It sure is magical to look at though! 🥰🌱

Been harvesting lots of tomatoes daily and making pasta sauce but today I decided to weigh our daily harvest and your looking at 7 lbs of tomatoes in the basket just for our paste tomatoes. Also put 4 quart bags in the freezer from those that have ripened this week to save for another batch of sauce whenever its not 100+ degrees 🥵 Will be harvesting off these till August then going to pull them out and replace with our fall tomato starts. ❤️🍅🌱
