Weekend Wildcats We provide free food to eligible students in SVS each week so they aren’t hungry over the weekend.🥣

Nationally, 1 in 5 children live in households that struggle to put food on the table. These households are referred to as “food insecure.” Just as financial insecurity leaves a family scrambling to pay bills, food insecurity means not knowing how you will provide your next meal. As a result, many children rely heavily on the free and reduced-cost school meal programs during the week and do not h

ave much to eat over the weekend. In the Shiloh Village School District, the national average is a reality with more than 100 students receiving free meals (breakfast and lunch) during the week and an even greater number receiving meals at a reduced cost. The purpose of the Weekend Wildcats program is to provide children with a bag of food to take home for the weekend. Children who don’t have enough to eat are more likely to struggle in school and more likely to miss school due to illness whereas students who regularly start the day with a healthy breakfast have improved school work and better test scores. Each Friday (or the last day of the school week), bags are sent home containing foods that are child-friendly, nutritious, nonperishable, and easy to prepare/eat. Each bag contains enough food for children to easily assemble 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches/dinners and some snacks. These items offer children healthy meals over the weekend when schools are unable to provide breakfasts or lunches.

BIG Things and BIG THANKS to share! 📢⭐️🦃

THANK YOU, Eleana McBride and the Shiloh Church Social Graces Group, for the generous donations recently! The canned pasta, snacks, applesauce, and macaroni were much appreciated! Our program is serving 36 kiddos now and we’re rockin’ and rollin’ each week to make sure the bags go out.🏃‍♀️😅🎶 Thank you to the teachers, administrators, admin assistants, social worker, and community members who help make it possible! 🤩🥰🥫It takes a village…and Shiloh’s a pretty great one. ❤️

We’re off to a strong start this school year, making ~25 meal bags and 10 middle school snack packs each week! The space at Shiloh Church is working out well and a generous donor even gave us all of these extra snacks which were leftover from their recent trunk or treat!

😸WEEKEND WILDCATS NEWS & UPDATES: Last year, we sent out 770 meal bags and 157 middle school snack packs to students in SVS! That was an increase in numbers from previous years (2023-474; 2024-638) and we were running out of time/space to make them at the end of the school year so we moved! Shiloh Church has provided us with space to store the food and pack the bags which also freed up space at SMS. Win-Win! 🤩🎉

If you’re a WW family, watch for a flier in the next week or so to sign your child up to receive our bags. We’re here to help! ❤️🙂🥫

We’re back at it and sending out 24 regular meal bags and ~10 snack packs per week! 🥫The recent donation drive filled our room with more cans than we’ve ever seen before which was awesome but also a little overwhelming (if we’re being honest 😅). LUCKILY, we had an awesome OTHS student volunteer with us for 2 hours this week and she managed to get every single can put away! So grateful for her!!!🤩 We’re also doing good on non-can/snack items thanks to monetary donations from Shiloh Church, Advantage Family Chiropractic, Village of Shiloh, and Live Laugh Illinois Real Estate Group! 🙌Community support keeps us going strong! ❤️

We just want to echo the importance of this week’s food drive! Although most of it will go towards Thanksgiving meals for some of our SVS families, anything extra will help us stock the Weekend Wildcat shelves. Our numbers have grown again and we made 35 bags last week! Donations should be non-perishable, not expired, and something kids will eat (the examples on the flier are a GREAT guide).☺️📈💵🥫🍝🌽🫛

Weekend Wildcats Program Updates!🐱
*We received another donation from Advantage Family Chiropractic ($3,133!! THANK YOU!!! 🙌💵) which helped us start budgeting for and purchasing healthier/higher protein items. 🤩
*We have been sending out lots of the “snack packs” with SMS students which seem to go over well because they easily fit into backpacks. 🎒👍
*We’re distributing ~25 total bags per week between both schools (regular & snack packs) and APPRECIATE all of the Shiloh School staff members who help make it possible!🦸🙌🛍️

***Want to donate to the program?***You can drop off money or food items at SES/SMS during school hours (Needs: pasta, canned soup, canned veggies, snack items, canned ravioli, beef sticks, peanuts, peanut butter crackers, macaroni & cheese, tuna, fruit cups/pouches, and plastic pasta sauce jars). ❤️
