Twin Springs Farm

Twin Springs Farm A Virginia sustainable farm specializing in ecologically grown lettuce, greens, carrots and beets.

Located at the base of the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains in Nelson County, Twin Spring Farms is a 76 acre diversified farm practicing sustainable agriculture. Our growing method includes the use of cover crops, compost, organic soil amendments, trace elements & micronutrients, while never using harmful synthetic herbicides or pesticides. The result is some of the most delicious, nut

ritious and beautiful produce you can find in the local farmer’s markets, grocers and restaurants in the greater Charlottesville area. We grow year-round in high tunnels providing lettuce, greens, carrots and beets.

Today while visiting with family buying stuff on Amazon came up I was amazed at how flippant we have become. It's about convenience and price. You are participating in the destruction of LOCAL commerce. What the Hell do you think happened! In 2017 the U.S. posted a $375.2 billion deficit in goods with China. Here’s all the stuff the U.S. imports from China that’s causing a huge trade deficit. How are you spending YOUR $$$?

President Donald Trump intends to apply tariffs on Chinese goods worth up to $60 billion in an effort to slash the huge U.S. trade deficit with China and protect sensitive technologies. It won’t be easy and it might even be impossible.

I managed to get two layers of row cover over my strawberries before that last cold spell we had a low of 29. The berries had already bloomed because of the above normal temps. I pulled the covers yesterday and they looked great.

We are losing 30 soccer fields of soil every minute, mostly due to intensive farming. All you have to do is look at the rivers near you after a good rain. Many experts beleive we have less than 60 years topsoil left. In the U.S. we have degraded around 73% of our soil, Stanford University Study. Cornell's David Pimenel "the problem, which is growing ever more critical, is being ignored because who gets excited about dirt?"

What a great time of collaboration with fellow bio-organic farmers gardeners suppliers and Ag Extension at the VA Association of Biological Farming Annual Meeting held at the Homestead Resort. Great food and a great lineup of successful rural and urban farmers. Maurice Small who has inspired and trained 1000s of inner-city kids from Detroit to Atlanta. Dan Kittredge founder of Bio Nutrient Food Ass. and Organic farmers with over $ million in farm revenue. Yes there are Organic Farms that big in VA and elsewhere.
