Follow me for more recipes… oops I mean tips on how to train your yak, or any other problem animal.

Yak lasagna… if anyone legit wants the recipe I can write it all down. There’s actually 2 different lasagnas in the oven, one with normal noodles and one with zucchini (gluten sensitivity so I try to avoid noodles and wheat as much as I can).

This has been my favorite version of owning a yak thus far. 10/10 stars highly recommend this version of owning any bovine.

While I wait for my dairy sheep to be ready for milking (next year) I decided to see about finding some small dairy goats to play with. These are Nigerian dwarves. These 2 are absolutely darling, polite, well behaved little goats. The gold doe has been a breeze to milk so far, she gets grain but she was really excited about eating some weeds while being milked… no problem I can pick some weeds while she stands still to be milked. The little chocolate and white doe stole my seat lol

Goats milk yogurt going into yogurt maker tonight for sure… and I’m loving the goats milk in my coffee this morning.

This is a completed skein of Darcy the sheep yarn. 8.25 ounces and 598 yards of 2 ply perfection. The variegated look is just amazing, I’m working on combing more of this fleece so I can start dreaming of the perfect project for the most special lambs fleece.

The skein has been wet set and is drying, will try to get Darcy’s reaction to it this week lol

A picture of Darcy all shorn down … she’s a very happy sheep… we are almost done shearing sheep now. I decided this year to just do a few sheep a day instead of doing them marathon style in one day. It’s easier on me for sure.

The most special lambs fleece makes the most special yarn.

My sheep over late fall got into burrs soooo bad. So I am having to hand comb all my fleeces this year. I hate combing with a passion but this fleece from this lamb is 1000% worth it. She’s black with a lot of flashing with sun-kissed tips on her wool; this is just the most amazing naturally variegated yarn I’ve ever spun I think.

Her name is Darcy and I was her mommas midwife last spring and watched her be born. I had to pull her and her momma from the pasture and unfortunately I had to pull Darcy from her mom and bottle raise her because we almost lost her momma. Thank god she made it and actually had a new beautiful ram lamb this year (so Darcy is a big sister).

Darcy is special to me, I tell her it all the time. I’m going to keep spinning her fleece and ply it all, I want to make something amazing to wear from it.

This yarn is 5.22 ounces of dedication, work, stress, and love for a sweet little lamb named Darcy. Sometimes in life a little perseverance goes a long way, I have a new appreciation for combing fleeces that I never thought I’d have. I doubt she will be impressed but I can’t wait to get a picture of the yarn with the sheep now that she’s a year old.

Since I’ve picked up the first pair I can make it official….ever since getting the sheep I wanted some dairy sheep. So today I picked up an East Frisian/Icelandic/tunis cross ewe and her ewe lamb (milked her enough for some creamer for my coffee for tomorrow.)

Tomorrow heading to go pick up a pure Tunis ram lamb to sire future dairy lambs.

End of the month I’m picking up a pair of east Frisian/clun forest cross ewe lambs from a sheep dairy in northern Indiana.

Very excited for the dairy sheep adventure. Ever since milking some of my smaller sheep I’ve fallen in love with the fresh yogurts in the spring and I’m dreaming of making cheese and butter.

This absolute looker of a ram lamb is going to be named Ellis. He is out of one of my favorite ewes, number 38. Idk what you even call this pattern, just wild looking. I love it.
