Our visiting pollinators from West Meadow Apiary LLC in Randolph, Vermont just wrapped up a busy few weeks at the orchard! These tiny worker bees have such an important impact on the fruit we grow.

Did You Know...
๐ŸBees (and other pollinators) are essential orchard workers, carrying pollen from flower to flower as they forage.
๐ŸŒธPollination is what turns spring blossoms into the fruit we harvest โ€” without it, many flowers wonโ€™t develop into healthy fruit.
๐ŸŽHealthy pollinator populations help support strong harvests each season. Good pollination helps produce larger, better-shaped, and more flavorful fruit by ensuring blossoms are fully fertilized.

It's planting season at the orchard and the crew sure has been busy... planting over 15,000 apple trees on 15 acres!

How is it possible to fit so many trees on this amount of land? These new trees will be grown using a high-density trellis system, or "fruiting wall". While they won't grow to be as dramatic looking as some of our older trees, there are many benefits to using this system:
๐ŸŒฑ More apples, sooner โ€“ By planting trees closer together, they start producing delicious fruit just a few years after planting.
๐ŸŽ Better-looking, better-tasting fruit โ€“ The trellis system helps sunlight reach every apple, improving color, flavor, and overall quality.
๐ŸŒค๏ธ Smarter, more sustainable growing โ€“ Trellises support the trees against wind and make it easier to add protective netting.
๐ŸŒณHealthier trees and soil - By planting the trees closer together, we are able to more efficiently manage water and nutrient absorption, and pest-control. Healthier for the soil, healthier for you!
๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ Safer, more efficient harvesting โ€“ Smaller, well-supported trees mean the fruit can be picked faster and with fewer ladders.

Spring can be an uncertain time at the orchard. Following last week's freezing temps, we're grateful to see that these delicate buds have survived! While more weather challenges may still lie ahead, for now we're cautiously optimistic that this season we'll have a solid crop of apples, pears, and stone fruit. ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ‘
