Hammerhead worms are an invasive species that kill beneficial earthworms in the garden.

Be sure to wear gloves if removing the worm as it contains a neurotoxin that can irritate the skin. It is also poisonous if ingested which can cause illness in animals and humans. You can put the worm in direct sun and sprinkle it with salt to ensure it dies, but do not break it up as they can regenerate.
