Mary has been busy pouring more beeswax candles for the upcoming Monmouth County Fair — and before finishing for the day, she decided to pour these eight beautiful candles.

Each candle is carefully hand-poured by Mary in our Tinton Falls workshop using 100% pure beeswax from honeybees, preserving that warm golden color and subtle natural honey aroma that makes beeswax so special.

There’s something satisfying about watching simple beeswax become candles that bring warmth and light into someone’s home.

At 4:30 this afternoon, our apiary was alive with activity.

Honeybees were busily flying in and out of the hives, while deer wandered nearby and dragonflies patrolled overhead.

Our beeyard is a special place, shared by honeybees, pollinators, and wildlife.

Best Wishes,

This white ball is called a seed head, though many people also know it as a dandelion clock.

During the dandelion’s bright yellow flower stage, it serves as an important early food source for honeybees, offering both nectar and pollen when spring blooms are still limited.

But once the flower has finished feeding pollinators, it begins to transform into this white ball.

Each tiny white “parachute” carries a seed, ready to drift on the wind and start life somewhere new.

Our Bigleaf hydrangeas are beginning their first stages of bloom next to our Honey House.

Near the end of June, we expect these tiny center flowers to open, and that’s when our honey bees will soon pay them regular visits for nectar and pollen.

Dragonflies Have Returned to the Beeyard

Every summer, as reliably as the honey flow and the hum of the hives, the dragonflies return.

For nearly 30 years, since we began E&M Gold Beekeepers in 1997, we've watched dragonflies actively patrol the entrance to our beeyard.

On warm sunny days, they can often be seen darting, hovering, and cruising through the apiary with remarkable speed and precision.

After all these years, seeing the first dragonflies of the season is still one of those small signs that summer is settling in around the hives.

Do Honeybees Like Hosta Flowers?

They certainly can!

While hostas are often grown for their beautiful foliage, their summer flower spikes also provide nectar for honeybees and other pollinators.

On warm days, it's not unusual to find bees visiting the tubular blossoms as they gather nectar and pollen.

Hostas may not be among the most important honey plants in New Jersey, but they can help provide forage during the summer months while adding beauty to the garden.

Their tubular blossoms should begin showing in about 2 weeks.

Like many flowering plants, Chameleon Plant can provide a little nectar and pollen for honeybees, native bees, and other pollinators when it is in bloom.

It won't compete with favorites such as clover, black locust, or wildflowers, but every bloom can play a small role in supporting pollinators throughout the season.

Many gardeners consider it invasive because it spreads aggressively through underground rhizomes and can quickly take over garden beds if left unchecked.

For that reason, it is often planted with caution or contained to prevent unwanted spreading.
