Happy History Sunday!

Another of dad's mystery altoid can with nick knacks.

Todays item is;

Is a souvenir/commemorative medal for the 24th Saengerfest of the North-American Sängerbund, held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, July 21–25, 1886.

What is Saengerfest? I'm glad you asked!

This wasn't just a local music festival.

The North-American Sängerbund was an organization of German-American singing societies. The Saengerfests were enormous gatherings combining German-American cultural identity, choral music, social organizations and civic celebration.

The festival consisted of roughly

2,500 singers
A 125-piece orchestra
And an audience of approximately 12,000 people

The building is the Milwaukee industrial exposition building. Specifically built to house exposition and conventions.

The second side is a Winged personification of Music with a lyre, surrounded by the German inscription identifying the 24th Saengerfest of the North American Sängerbund.

140 yo white metal. The hole was there to hold as a souvenir badge.

Pretty sweet!!

Well we fixed it up a little bit. Betty transplanted some more flowers and we will add another little raised bed for more milkweed next year. Gonna make another run at planting grass in front of it.

Happy history Sunday!

Today's item is another one my dads classics.

Wilson protective glasses

U.S. Patent 1,322,834 was issued November 25, 1919 to Harry F. Shindel. He was part of the Willson Goggle Inc company (not sporting goods) in 1922 Fedrick Wilson and Shindel became inventors of said company.

This pair of goggles was produced in the 1930-1934

The second patent number of this item is stamped wrong as it is for a watch company. What happens some times they use an older mold and the number would be stamped on the wrong items.

These type of goggles were used for:
metal grinding
chipping
cutting
welding
protection from flying chips and sparks
industrial work where eye protection was required

Pretty sure my dad used these as a kid for swimming.
