Love red wine but hate when it spills on your favorite jeans or leaves your teeth looking as grey as the Ohio sky today? No problem if it’s Scout and Cellar. Wondering why?

Mega Purple. A food additive/dye that is comprised mostly of sugar to simply make low cost wine look better, richer, more luscious. The good news? None of our wines have it. Zero! All natural. Organic. Hand harvested. Good for the planet and good for you!

From Wiki: “According to journal reports, Mega Purple is used by almost every low- to moderate-value wine producer (below $20US per 750 ml bottle) to help standardize the bottled product ensuring a more uniform product.[1]

It is produced by concentrating the teinturier grape Rubired, a cross between Alicante Ganzin and Tinta Cão, has 68% sugar and sells for approximately $135 a gallon.[1]

Mega Purple has raised some controversy within the wine consuming community as its use is considered to be akin to adulterating a wine.[2][3] Others, such as John Williams, winemaker for Frog's Leap Winery, has stated that the need for its use is evidence of poor viticulture and/or winemaking.[4]”

We have plenty of reds under 20$ that skip Mega Purple, and a whole lot of other junk!

Tonight we broke out the good stuff. 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley paired so beautifully with the hard work I put in to make this beautiful Hoppin’ John with brown sugar wild-caught salmon and a homemade avocado and lime vinaigrette salad. Happy Saturday!
