Happy almost New Year! A huge shout-out to all our Pineywoods meat customers and the wonderful folks we've met who are homesteading and starting their own herds of Pineywoods cattle. Our cattle are 100% grass fed, 100% grass finished, 100% pasture raised. Great-tasting, lean beef and a hardy, dual-purpose breed!

Our next processing date is coming up so by mid-February, our freezers will be well stocked. All of our cows are either pregnant or have calved recently--we have six of the cutest calves bouncing around--and we're expecting at least eight more calves in the first quarter of 2023.

We’ve been blessed to meet many amazing young homesteaders who have purchased some of our Pineywoods cattle to start their own herds! It’s rewarding to see more folks get into raising their own animals for both milk and meat. Pineywoods are a wonderful, dual-purpose breed. We can proudly say that we now have animals at their new homes from the mountains to the coast of NC!

In other news, the loggers were here for several weeks, thinning our pine plantation. Our next goal is to get fencing in place and seed the newly-opened grazing areas so that we can silvo-pasture our Pineywoods cattle. They’re most at home in the woods, and we are eager to expand that grazing area. More work for us, initially, but we really believe it will be a win-win for all. We can expand the herd and utilize more of our beautiful property, and the cattle will keep more of the land grazed as we rotate them through the various pastures. We’ve also divided our animals into three small herds utilizing three bulls—Hank, Charlie and Pete. This allows us to sell breeding stock of unrelated heifers and bulls.

While the heat has left me feeling wilted, our Pineywoods cattle are doing great--neither heat nor cold seems to bother them. The calves are as bouncy as ever. We're grateful to all those folks who have come by the farm to look at the breeding stock we have for sale. We love helping folks get started with their own herd of these amazing, hardy cattle.
