Look what I ate! 🍴👀
Did you know that you can see into the stomach of protozoan with a strong enough microscope? This photo shows an amoeba with a protective shell called a testate amoeba, and we are looking through the translucent cell wall to observe the bacteria and smaller microbes the amoeba ate! This amazing microorganism was found in compost made by the New Earth Project.
Protozoa are single-celled organisms like amoebae and ciliates that play a crucial role in the Soil Food Web by consuming bacteria and releasing nutrients in a plant-available form. These microscopic predators help regulate bacterial populations, cycle nutrients, and improve soil structure.
Join us for a FREE Soil Microscopy Workshop to learn more.🪱🩷🌱 This event will include a B.Y.O.S. portion- Bring your own soil sample to see what is living in your soil or compost! Call 575-956-3301 for more information.
