Fermentation! It’s my favorite form of preservation on the farm. This is a nice jar of sugar rush peach peppers destined to be a yummy hot sauce.

Fermentation is one of the easiest ways to preserve as long as you follow a few simple rules and don’t forget about it! Sometimes they become science experiments on your counter or in cabinets. I suggest keeping them@out where you can see them and not forget. What’s your favorite thing to ferment?

Hello, my name is Hayden Hamilton, I would like to invite you to the Kitsap Junior Livestock Auction at the Kitsap Fair and Stampede. The auction is August 23rd at 2 pm. I will be selling my two animals. Cucumber is a purebred duroc hog raised on my farm from birth. She is six months old and growing very well. Durocs are known for their lean and highly flavorful meat. If you cannot make it to the auction you can bid online or make a donation in my name at https://kfsa.schoolauction.net/kjlauctiondonations/. My other market animal is Pickles, he is a Hampshire cross lamb. He is also growing very quickly. He has a really nice loin and rump and should be a great addition to your freezer. This was my first year raising a lamb and I learned a lot. I look forward to meeting you at the auction, please come by and say “Hi!” in the swine barn or sheep barn.

I have been involved with the fair in one role or another for over thirty years. In that time I have watched countless numbers of kids and volunteers do everything they could to build, fix, paint, and quite literally band-aid things together to make the Kitsap Fair and Stampede happen every single year. I am relatively “young” in this community and yet I know this has been happening for many generations before me. I know so many of you are nodding your head reading this because you personally have put your own blood, sweat, and tears into these facilities.

The formation of a nonprofit board for the fair has meant new opportunities for this community to grow. Thanks to the dedication of volunteers and the support of local businesses, we’ve been working closely with County Parks to make significant improvements to the barns, and we are not done yet.

The barns have decades worth of paint layers on them and more brooms and pressure washers than you can imagine have scrubbed every inch of those spaces. But some things can’t simply be painted or patched. That’s why we set the goal of replacing our sheep, goat, and swine pens for the barn dance fundraiser, coming up on March 29th. This is our way of giving back to the countless hours donated by volunteers and youth by providing pens that will provide a relief in an area they cannot just paint and fix themselves. These pens will be safer, easier to setup, and will also offer flexibility with their moveable design.

I hope you will join us for this event. Your support will help ensure the fair remains a safe and enjoyable tradition for future farmers and generations to come.
