Good morning from our trial fields in the Willamette Valley, Oregon.

A quick update on OBG-Sirocco, the newest southern highbush release from Oregon Blueberry. 🫐

The fruit is sizing up beautifully and is expected to reach an impressive 22-24 mm, putting it in the jumbo category. Sirocco is shaping up to be an exciting addition to the Oregon Blueberry portfolio.

Stay tuned, we’ll be sharing more updates from the field soon!

Last week, Doug McCann was in California checking in on OBG-Belairā„¢ 🫐

This new premium Southern Highbush is showing the kind of fruit quality and overall performance that stands out at harvest. In California’s Central Valley, crews were picking fruit in the 20–24 mm range, with firmness readings between 307–430 g/mm³. Yields average 19lbs per plant.

Beyond the fruit itself, the plants are carrying a strong leaf-to-fruit ratio with balanced structure and excellent overall presentation in the field. The combination of size, firmness, flavor, and plant performance continues to reinforce OBG-Belairā„¢ as a premium genetic worth watching closely.

More updates coming as we move into harvest in the PNW.

In this latest field update, Doug McCann walks through what we’re seeing with OBG-Raptorā„¢ in the Pacific Northwest as the plants move beyond flowering and into early fruit development. The uniform green fruit set across these plants is exciting to see, along with the overall consistency, crop load, and plant balance heading toward harvest.

OBG-Raptorā„¢ is a late-season release that last year produced up to 38 lbs per plant, with fruit sizing in the 18–22 mm range. The variety also concentrates well for harvest in 1–2 picks for both fresh and processed market applications.

We’re excited to continue watching OBG-Raptorā„¢ as the season moves forward and will keep sharing updates from the field.

OBG-Belairā„¢ harvest is in full swing this week in California’s Central Valley, and this variety is exceeding projections across the board.

Size, yield, firmness, and flavor are all standing out in the field. Fruit is currently measuring 22–24 mm, with excellent firmness and a sweet flavor profile. One of our team members called it one of the best berries she’s tasted this season.

OBG-Belairā„¢ is demonstrating the combination growers want to see: strong production paired with premium fresh-market quality.

This spring, we’ve been sharing updates on all of our new releases as we move toward harvest, and today we’re highlighting OBG-Belairā„¢.

Currently in our Willamette Valley trial fields, OBG-Belairā„¢ is showing highly uniform green fruit development and balanced plant structure as the season progresses.

A mid-chill variety (400+ hours), OBG-Belairā„¢ has continued to stand out in trials for its consistent production, firm fruit, and crisp texture. At harvest, berries average around 20.5 mm and has done well in our storage trials. It’s a modern alternative to Suziblue.

OBG-20010 is absolutely loaded with green fruit already, and it’s hard not to stop and take a closer look walking these rows. 🤩

This variety has continued to stand out for its combination of fruit size, firmness, flavor, and post-harvest quality. In our trials, fruit has averaged 22–24 mm with very strong firmness and excellent eating experience.

These six-year-old plants produced approximately 8.4 kilos (18 lbs) per plant during the 2025 season.

With an estimated ~80 day window from bloom to ripe, this one is moving quickly now and we’re excited to keep watching how the season develops.

Last week, April 30th, in our Willamette Valley research fields, OBG-Astoria was showing the kind of field performance we pay attention to this time of year. Strong bloom development and uniform flower set are driving fruit set and yield potential for the season ahead.

OBG-Astoria moves from bloom to ripe in approximately 70 days, providing a clear and predictable development window. We’ll be back out in the field soon with more updates as the season progresses.

Want to see it in action this year? Reach out to get on the schedule for a visit. 🫐🧬

Quick in-field update with Doug McCann on OBG-Raptorā„¢ from Friday, April 24.

Last year, we saw between 35–40 lbs average per plant, and we’re excited to see how yields are tracking this season.

Paired with the grower-friendly nature of this variety and the eating quality of the fruit, OBG-Raptorā„¢ is truly a grower’s variety.
