It’s the sign of another hop growing season when the natural coconut husk strings are tied at the trellis top in early morning. Hello 2026. We welcome the joys and challenges of another season.

Well look what’s happening again. It’s such an honor to have our Pinot Gris winegrapes selected again for a vineyard designate bottling.

Amber waves of barley being combined on the farm this week! A few hundred thousand pounds will soon be en route to Great Western Malting in Vancouver, WA to be malted, eventually going to breweries and distilleries across the country as single-farm origin Goschie Farms Malt.

Happy Earth Day! We're especially excited to partner with the Earth again as we prepare to celebrate our 120th hop harvest later this year. Enjoy this OPB article and video that tells the stories of hop growing, IPA brewing, and why the ground that craft beer natural ingredients can be made of is so important to our farm.

Walk into any brewery or grocery store today and you will see the letters IPA everywhere — that intense, tropical beer has become Oregon’s style. That wasn’t always the case. It turns out that a variety of hop bred in Oregon — almost by accident — sparked an entirely new way of making beer...

Man down! Last week, a shock thunderstorm dumped enough rain that it managed to take down an entire hopyard. Fortunately these Cascades seem to have survived the fall, but it certainly made harvest more difficult. All hands were on deck as our amazing day and night crews joined forces to slowly and safely raise the wires two-by-two so the vines could be loaded into trailers. With a huge thank you to them, we got it done.

This is the first time, at least in recent memory, that we've seen a disaster at this scale. Not an adventure we are eager to repeat!

Even the vines want to dance when it's fresh hop beer time 💃🕺

These beautiful Strata hops could soon be in a fresh hop beer near you!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

We spent our morning stringing the hopyards in preparation for this year's bounty. In just a few months this whole field will be so green you'll think you're in Ireland.

To all those raising a pint today: rest assured that we're working hard on the next batch, and cheers!

Also be sure to check out cheerstotheland.com - the brilliant folks at OAT have fun events planned with some great brewers to celebrate throughout the rest of the month.

Cheers!

That's all folks - Goschie Farms Hop Harvest 2022 is officially a wrap!

This is how the rest of the story plays out: after drying, the hop flowers are piled up with their brethren awaiting the baling machines, where they are gently compacted into uniform 200 pound packages and trucked off. Here, Goschie Farms’ Gayle inspects a freshly-baled batch bound for delivery to cold storage so your favorite brewer can utilize them throughout the year.

We hope you enjoyed this digital peek behind the curtain this year... But we aren't done yet. Stay tuned for our next big adventure here on the farm - winegrape harvest is right around the corner!

Who wants to go for a swim!? Throughout harvest, our drying floors hold millions of hop flowers at any given time, 24 hours a day. The average IPA requires about 20 hop cones... how many pints do you think are in these photos?
