Located here on the border of NW Arkansas and SW Missouri. These plots contain Buck Forage Oats and Buck Forage Chicory.

We recently experienced a two week spell of snow and single digit temperatures, including some nights time temps lower than that.

Forage from the chicory was smoked. Oats forage was barely bothered, save some slight discoloration on the tips.

We have since had unseasonably warm weather for two weeks, with highs up to the mid 70’s many days, and lows in the mid 40’s to 50 at night.

Notice the chicory already producing new forage and the tillering on these oats.

It’s hard to beat fresh late winter forage for your herds recovery and well being.

Here is an experiment we did a number of years ago. We planted three plots, one (back) to wheat, one (left) planted to Buck Forage Oats and electric fenced, and one (right) to Buck Forage Oats and not electric fenced. The fenced plot was still “hot” at the time of the photo! Snow is a wonderful thing sometimes! Deer show what they like by pawing through it!

Update from Kansas Rifle Day 1. A little slow. I had a large, mature buck pass through before good light. Appeared to be tall with good mass. Could have taken a shot, but could not say exactly what I would be shooting, so I passed. I also saw a yearling buck and 8-10 doe and fawns. As well as about 100 turkeys, and 1 coyote (deceased)
