First year growing sunflowers and they’ve definitely earned a spot in next year’s garden. 🌻

We’ll roast some seeds to eat, save plenty to plant again, and probably share a few with the chickens. 😂

On a scale of 1 to Weezy here, how is everyone else handling this awful August heat? 🥵😂

We’ve been taking a hint from her and spending a little more time inside during the hottest part of the day—which means I’ve had some time to work on a few new things for Redheaded Homestead Botanicals. 🌿

First up: an herbal paw balm for our four-legged farm helpers and best friends. 🐾 More on that one soon!

August reality: it’s miserably hot, the garden is messy, productive, and nowhere near done. 🌱 Tomatoes, peppers, okra, green beans, cowpeas, and Jimmy Red corn are still coming in — some prettier than others, all of it good.

Hand-shelled a half-gallon of corn kernels before my blisters made me finally buy a thresher this year. The rest here will absolutely wait until it comes in. 😅 Sometimes you learn the hard way.

And we’re still grateful for every crooked, sun-kissed bite that feeds our family. ❤️🌽
