Friends & Customers of Sandhill Farm-
You may or may not have heard that we’ve paused our farm operation for the 2026 season.
In our long search for farmable land and a home, we have come to the extremely difficult decision to pause our farm. We are torn about this decision, but we feel it’s the most sustainable choice for us for the long haul. We have wrestled with this idea since the end of the 2023 season. The sadness we feel, aside from saying goodbye to the soil and nature’s rhythms we’ve come to know and love, is not being able to feed our community.
So let us be clear. We are not pausing our operation because we aren’t successful. We are pausing because we ARE successful.
We’ve outgrown the greenhouse, the produce cooler, and the one acre we farm. We’ve been eager and ready to expand our acreage/operation for a few years now. We have asked for additional acreage every season since 2022 to only be met with denial. All that said, we’ve hit our ceiling at the Sinsinawa Mound.
We are not stagnant. We ARE seeking a new space where we can live, and thrive, and create.
We desire to build high tunnels, plant perennial crops, grow more food, implement more cover cropping, better our crop rotation, expand our pollinator habitats, and most importantly: live where we farm.
We didn’t fail and we ARE still searching for our forever farm.
We are eternally grateful to all of you who have helped us fuel our hope, passion, and grit. And we are truly sorry we won’t be growing food this year. As we continue down this path, we are hopeful we will see you on the other side of the bend.
