Hi friends, Katy here. This is a post I’ve put off making but it’s time we address something we’ve been struggling with for a while.
When we opened our store on Trevi Place. We really took a chance on setting up shop just outside a residential area without a lot of retail activity but we felt like it was the right move for us. Turns out, it’s been great!
Over time, we’ve realized that we are the “it” place for the local tweens to visit during the summer, after school and during holiday breaks. We love that we are a place that parents feel safe for their kids to visit via walking, biking and scootering. It’s not unusual, especially in the hour or two after school, for us to have 20+ kids in the lobby enjoying snacks and socializing with friends.
While we don’t know each one personally, the majority of kids that come into our store are considerate and polite. However, sometimes that group mentality takes over and questionable choices are made. We regularly have trash and uneaten snacks left on our tables, empty cups left in the parking lot, damage to our furniture and a noise level that often makes it difficult to hear our drive through and other customers inside our store.
Additionally, most of these kids are riding bikes and scooters through our parking lot. More than once there has been a close call when a driver did not see a child riding behind them when they were backing out or trying to turn out of our drive through lane. We want to continue to welcome all customers into our stores but we have a simple request for their parents.
If your child regularly visits our Trevi Place location without an adult, we ask that you please have a conversation with them about respecting public and private spaces, using their “inside voice” and practicing bike and scooters through our safety. It’s not lost on is that these very kids are some of our most regular customers so we want to be able to continue to serve them while also providing a clean, comfortable place for other customers to spend time as well.
