Only a handful of cows left to calve but starting to think of what we will use this next year already. We aim to make productive animals that will work right. We don’t want to have to pull calves on the heifers so calving ease is important. Docility is a huge factor for safety and workability. Maternal factors are a focus as if you don’t have good cows then you can’t make good calves. Everyone wants growth as well. Have our eyes on a few weeks to make our plans as we start breeding end if May beginning of June.

We had a few sires this year that checked these boxes so far: BJ Surpass- these calves hit the ground running; Dynamic- these calves look really good; LAF401(Dynamic)- another set of calves that hit the ground running and very vivacious; Comstock- didn’t think we ordered s*x semen but got all heifers out of him (which is ok), and our herd bulls LAF420(Dynamic) and LAF429(209-Justified). We are really impressed with LAF420’s calves so far and excited to see them grow.

We aren’t afraid to use our own bulls. We try to maintain a closed herd so that we can offer a reduced risk of disease to our customers as well. The use of AI helps us offer the diversity for our herd as well as yours.

Some Friday frolics to start off the weekend. Nice to see calves feeling good and loving life. These are a couple of the younger calves out of our LAF420 bull we used as clean up. Have some really nice bull calves out of him.

Thank you to everyone who helped with our sale behind the scenes, came to our sale, sent us well wishes, or have supported us over the years. We value the people that we work with and it is what really keeps us in the business. We look forward to getting everyone their animals that they purchased and getting them to work.

LAF110(Stellar) dam had her baby today. This is our 2nd calf out of our LAF420(Dynamic) bull. She came a week early. Smaller but got up and going well. She had the LAF509(True North) bull on the sale.

First came yesterday (1 day past due) and was an 81 lb bull calf born to a 7 year old LAF605(Capitalist) cow. She has the LAF514(Comstock) bull on the sale.

Both cows did their job and have workable udders. And they are attentive to their calves.

Heifers for the sale will be moved over next to the bulls on Friday. They have enjoyed their winter at Greg’s place and am sure will stir up some excitement from the boys.

Our 020 cow is a pathfinder for the past two years. She has had some great daughters. 203 (dam to LAF401 and this years bull LAF524) and 303 (dam to 501 bull). She had a really good bull last year and at two days of age thinking this little guy (LAF625)will be a good one too. He is sired by Surpass. The little one next to him is a Comstock heifer. We got 7 heifers out of Comstock this year- no bulls. Will be seeing how they do on the female end.

This morning we had calves running as fast as they can go up and down the paddocks. Great site to see… and they always stop when they are on camera. 🤠
