Gave first shots to the calves today. Won’t be long before they are weaned and starting their development into bulls. Have some nice Dynamic, Surpass, and LAF401(Dynamic) bulls from our AI’d group.

Needed to move the cows this weekend to get them closer to start pre-weaning shots. They love the pasture they were in as it is on top of the world and there is a good breeze and shade. They are pretty easy to move from there as they usually get some type of treat at the end of their move. Many times it is fly control. Today they got to clean up some of the pens that had a wide range of forage in them. Wish the pastures grew as well. 😉

Had a nice visit with the customer (John Odea and his wife Michelle) who bought our LAF401(Dynamic) bull today. We always enjoy connecting with customers and were happy to hear that 401 (aka George) is doing his job for them as that is the goal. We want to have customers that are satisfied that their bulls are doing the work they paid for.

We breed for bulls that will make you good cows. Good cows will make you good calves and if you are lucky the good ones will give you a heifer so you can continue the line. LAF020 is a six your old cow out of Stellar. Her first calf was LAF203 out of Justified. She has blessed us with two other heifers (and 2 bulls) and is a pathfinder cow. LAF203 has blessed us with 3 bull calves so far and her sister LAF303(Patriarch) has also been productive with one of each so far. LAF511(True North) will be in the line up for next year for her first calf.

We have a few calves out of LAF401(Dynamic) this year also. From what we see now they are on the heifers are on keeper list and some nice bulls will be on the sale.

(Got lucky and All pictures were from today except LAF511. Can’t have them all cooperate😉)

Heifer calves are always special on our farm. They mean the future of improved genetics. We are also not afraid to use our own bulls as we try to breed good bulls that will produce good cows.

Two of the bulls used this year were ones we raised. They are out of Dynamic and both of these bulls have pathfinder dams behind them. Will be fun to see what these ladies can do.

We were happy to get some nice heifers this year that will be keepers aiding in building the future of the herd. LAF401(Dynamic), BJ Surpass, and Comstock were the main sires along with LAF420 our clean up bull. All sires had some good maternal traits which is a must for producing quality calves.

Happy birthday to our true head honcho aka Management…. Marcia! She is a hard worker and does it all. She hates having her picture taken so here are a few oldies but goodies over the years.

We went all out this year for her birthday. There will be a parade, fireworks, a big dance, and her personal favorite a watermelon feed! (They are also in honor of our little town of Rembrandt celebrating 125 years but we will share.)
