Sometimes all it takes is one beautiful idea. When customers Jeff and Graham Murtaugh wondered how to get a chilled watermelon to the firefighters on the Akawa Butte Fire, that simple act of care sparked something bigger. 🍉 Together with the Murtaughs, our produce partners at 🍉🍊🍌🍏🫐🍇 and United Salad Co., and all of us at Oliver Lemon’s Market, that thought became hundreds of pieces of fresh fruit for the people working tirelessly to protect our community.

If you’re serving on the as a firefighter, support crew member, pilot, mechanic, dispatcher, or in any other role, please stop by Oliver Lemon’s in downtown Sisters and help yourself. We’ve got watermelons, blueberries, oranges, and our heartfelt thanks waiting for you.

A special thank you to Sisters-Camp Sherman FD, , USDA Forest Service Oregon, and every agency and crew working together to protect our community. We are so grateful for your courage, your sacrifice, and your unwavering commitment. 🙏

And if you’ve been displaced by the fire and a little fresh fruit would brighten your day, please know this gift is for you too. 💛

Graham ended his poem with these words:

“I ponder how to mail a chilled watermelon to the front.”

Turns out, in Sisters, you don’t have to mail one. You simply tell your neighbors.

As a designated critical infrastructure business, Oliver Lemon’s will remain open while the evacuation level is at Level 2 (Be Set) so we can continue serving our community with groceries, fresh food, and everyday essentials.

If evacuation orders move to Level 3 (Go Now), we will close our doors to protect the safety of our employees and customers.

Our hearts are with everyone impacted by the fires. We are deeply grateful to the firefighters, police officers, sheriff’s deputies, emergency personnel, and the many volunteers working tirelessly to protect our communities. Your courage and dedication do not go unnoticed.

To our neighbors: prepare early, make a plan, check in on those around you, and stay informed. A simple phone call or knock on a door can make all the difference.

Central Oregon has always shown that when times are hard, we come together. Together, we’re strong, and together, we’ll get through this. ❤️
