OUR LAND OUR VISION
Learning, Living, Dreaming...Farming
The PLACE - Just outside the small town of Sisters, OR, there is a small family farm doing very special things. Started in 2012, just off of Highway 126, there’s a beautiful 40 acre piece of property being passionately loved and taken care of, in order to provide a wonderful upbringing for all their animals. With 3 main pastures planted in orchard grass and rye, we raise grass fed lamb and small quantity of grass fed beef. We also have chickens, which are free-range and wonder the property to create delicious and tasty eggs. “ It’s important we try to take care of the land as naturally as possible” and that’s exactly what we do. With a constant rotation of compost piles, the term reuse couldn’t be stated lightly and besides, its clear the land and grass aren’t complaining. This is home for both our family and our livestock, and we want to take care of them and the land and animals around it.
The CREW includes the main visionary and coordinator, Karan Swaner. She is the creator and executor of her dream. Karan studied Animal Science as a graduate student, but her career took her in different directions -- first Washington DC and then overseas -- and her livestock dreams were put on hold. After retiring from the State Department, she moved to Central Oregon, a place that means a great deal to her. Karan knew that she couldn’t do all of this on her own so she enlisted her son Chris Nichols into creating this family business together.
