I’ve been talking about removing this tree for several years now cause I was worried it may fall on the fence.Last night around 7:30 a storm came in and well…. Thankful the pigs were not there at the time. They do like to show up and clear leaves for me. I came across one Copperhead as I was cutting up the limbs and another in about the same spot under a piece of bark I picked up. I was honestly expecting to see one(you have to expect one out here). The pigs stopped helping before the work was done and took a nap. I replaced one panel and will work on the others that were damaged but the pigs can’t get out of that section so I can hold off for now. I just cleaned up a tree last Wednesday that had fell on the fence where the pigs were pictured sleeping. My burn pile is getting pretty big.

These little ones arrived today. I ordered Blue Bresse chicks but seems like I received a mixed order. I can tell which are the Blue Bresse but looks like there are 3 other breeds, not sure what they are.

I posted back a bit that my rooster died. I know some hens can stay fertile up to a month so a couple weeks after the rooster died I decided to gather a couple dozen eggs to see what may hatch and hope for another rooster. Only 3 were fertile and they were from my Leghorn hens or hen. Of the 3 only 1 made it. My rooster was an American Bresse and the hen a Leghorn. Well my wish/hope came true but at 3 weeks old this guy is more aggressive than his dad ever was! I was egging him on this time but he started acting like this a couple days ago when I would feed him.

About 4 weeks ago or so my American Bresse rooster up and died. About a week later I decided to get a dozen eggs for the incubator and only had 3 that were fertilized. The 3 were White Leghorn eggs, no American Bresse. Of the 3 it looks like only one will hatch, one died early in the egg and there is the 3rd that doesn’t look hopeful. I put another dozen Leghorn eggs in the other incubator to see if I can get any more. American Bresse and White Leghorns look alike except the Bresse have light blue legs and Leghorns have yellow. It will be interesting what this cross will look like.

Today will be the first day we will be above freezing since the winter “storm” came in Tuesday so I decided Barrett and I needed to go for a hike. We went to a part of the property we haven’t been in a few years. Some of the pics don’t do the view justice. With Barrett turning 8 this month I don’t know how many more winters we get to do this together so I appreciate every adventure with him. Also saw some a lot of tracks in the fresh snow and some old beaver activity.

Last of this years tomatoes. I picked them green about 2 weeks ago before we had a freeze. One still holding on to its green. It’s nice having a long growing season.

Have some frost flowers blooming this morning.
