Our County fair did us good
Ribbon for market goat who went for $17/lb at the auction he weighed in at 98lbs. Ribbons for breeder boer does and dairy goats.

Hello, my name is Taylor Reiss; I graduated from Nevada Union High School in June 2026 and I will be starting college after fair in the veterinary technician program. For the last four years I have chosen to accept the challenge of raising a livestock project. Currently, I am preparing my market goat as well as two breeder Boer does and two dairy does for the Nevada County Fair, August 12-16, 2026. This project consists of a Market Boer goat named Paprika. He is healthy, happy, well built, and spicy. I named him Paprika because he came to me with a spicy attitude, is very opinionated about new things, and has kept that spiciness the entire time I've owned him.
During my four years at Nevada Union I have learned many valuable skills on how to raise, train, groom, and show a market goat. My future plans include to keep raising market goats for another year and continue showing my breeder does and dairy does throughout college. My future in education is in agriculture at a nearby college majoring as a livestock veterinarian technician and ultimately getting a Bachelor's degree in farm management at Feather River College. I hope after college to start my own farm; while consulting other farms and ranches who may be struggling in production and animal husbandry skills to be more successful.
The purpose of my letter is to invite you to attend the Nevada County Junior Livestock Show on August 12, 2026 and the Nevada County Junior Livestock auction on Sunday August 16, 2026 at 9:00 AM at the Nevada County Fairgrounds to support me and other youth from Nevada County. There will be a Buyer’s breakfast that begins prior to the auction, there is also lunch and drinks will be provided during the auction in the shaded arena.
If you are unable to attend the auction or not interested in purchasing an animal you can still help the local youth by providing an “add-on" which can be made in amounts as small as $25. Add-ons are added to the auction price exhibitors received for their projects which helps to provide some additional premium to help defray the cost of owning and raising an animal. At the Nevada County Junior Livestock Auction there are two different ways to handle your purchase: you can send the animal custom for your consumption or resale. If you choose to buy the animal for custom you will pay a certain dollar/pound amount and will have a freezer full of delicious meat! If you send the animal resale you will simply pay the difference between the market value/pound and your bid/pound. With the resale option you do not take the processed animal home but the overall out-of-pocket price is substantially less.

Boer Buck to either borrow or bring our 2 girls to for live cover breeding. FFA kid breeding project for their owned goat herd.
*Can be commercial or percentage (preferred)
*Wide chest but not a beast, as our girls are a bit petite. Show correct as possible.
*can be traditional, but would love dapple.
*clean tested herd, we are too.

The boys are settling in. And already watching over the goats from their pen for now. We're slowly integrating them into the herd.
Its hard to remember theyre only 11 months old with how big they are, around 80lbs and 4ft tall top of their head.
They got their spike collars now to help protect them.
And have been named Storm and Trooper

The barn is done.
The herd now has a secure shelter for the nights. And shelter from the rain, cold, and sun. They are enjoying it already.

Last of the new additions to our farm. Meet Storm and Trooper.
Brother Italian Meremaa livestock guardian dogs. These boys will be protecting our goats from predators. Theyre currently around 80lbs at 11months old. And currently bonding with husband today, while they decompress from theyre traveling yesterday.

These dogs are bred for this job. Not all dog breeds are able to do it. So we cant just take our house dogs and toss them out in the field and expect them to take care of the goats and fight off predators. These boys will instinctively do that job.

Goat house is coming along. Unfortunately not as fast as we'd like to get the herd secured and hopefully prevent another mountain lion attack.

Now to figure out how to get the roof on with husband and 2 5.5ft females 🤔
