It may be cold outside, but we're definitely moving toward spring! First sunlight of the year on the solar panels! We live on the north side of a mountain so we don't get any direct sunlight from early December until late January. It's always nice to see that little reminder that the sun is coming back and the days are getting longer as well. 😁

Happy New Year! 🥳 (It's been a week and the squeaky toys are still hilarious every time she picks them up! 😂🤣)

Day three of cleanup from the wind storm...it's a lot. We got the smaller pen cleaned up and fixed enough so we have somewhere to put the goats with a house and four solid fences. They've been sleeping under trees since the storm so they should stay warmer and dry tonight. The goats were a bit apprehensive about the chainsaw but they did their part "helping" with the bigger logs. 😂

Driving up our driveway from about the midway point after our neighbor cleared the trees enough for us to get down to the goat pen this morning. So many trees went down in the storm! 😞

These pictures show some of the damage from the massive wind storm we had early this morning though this afternoon. We lost so many trees, but thankfully none hit anything important and all the animals are alive and well. Thank goodness for great neighbors who called to check on us and a big thank you to the ones who came and cleared our half-mile driveway of all the downed trees so we could get down the hill to the animals! Our solar panels fared the worst but even that damage is minimal since it's just the frame that broke. We still have heat (firewood) power (solar and generator) and propane for heated water and cooking so we're doing better than most in our area who are without electricity right now. 😞 Praying for those in our area tonight that they'll stay warm and dry and they get power back quickly!

This wind is crazy! I don't think we'll have any trees left by the time it's over! 😂 Seriously though, we've lost quite a few already and it's not done yet. At least being off grid has its perks...we won't lose power. 😉

After much thought and discussion we have decided to let go of our dairy/meat goat herd. The last of them were loaded on a trailer this evening bound for a new farm. Sadly, with the increasing cost of hay and feed and the difficulty we've had moving kids every spring, we just couldn't keep putting money in to something that we can't at least break even with. We are left with our two 5 year old Nigerian Dwarf wethers, Nibbler and Clay, and the three kids from this last spring, Cori, Douglas, and Airplane. We will no longer be breeding goats but we will keep the ones we have as pets and brush clearers. (Under the circumstances I thought this image I found online was appropriate 😉)

Maya has discovered the back window. My desk overlooks the hillside behind our house and if she stands about halfway up the hill she can look right at me with her tiger toy hanging out of her mouth to give the full sad puppy eyes effect. 😂 She does this when she wants my attention and so far it's working for her. 🤣
