The Reality of Farming in America:
This photo was taken along our fence line.
On one side is our farm. On the other side may be neighbors making different choices than we do. That’s the reality of farming in America.
We believe in raising food as naturally as possible. We choose regenerative practices, GMO-free feed, healthy soil, and avoid herbicides like glyphosate. But we’re also realistic enough to know that perfection doesn’t exist.
The truth is that many people are simply doing the best they can with the information they’ve been given.
For decades, government agencies, universities, advertisers, and manufacturers have told Americans that products like glyphosate are safe when used as directed. Even today, that message continues despite ongoing debate, scientific concerns, and billions of dollars paid in settlements related to health claims against the manufacturer.
We’re not interested in judging our neighbors.
Most people aren’t bad people making bad choices. They’re busy people making convenient choices, often based on information they trusted.
What we can do is keep learning.
Learn where your food comes from.
Learn what goes into your soil.
Learn what goes onto your lawn.
Learn what goes into your body.
And when you learn something valuable, share it with kindness instead of arrogance.
Nobody changes their mind because they were shamed. People change when they’re respected enough to be invited into a conversation.
At Sugar Run Farm, we don’t claim perfection. We simply try to do a little better today than we did yesterday.
Maybe that means buying local.
Maybe that means reading an ingredient label.
Maybe that means planting a garden.
Maybe that means choosing pasture-raised meat or farm-fresh eggs.
Small choices matter.
The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is intention.
A healthier family.
A healthier community.
A healthier piece of land than the one we started with.
One decision at a time.
🌱 Do the best you can with what you know today. Then keep learning tomorrow.
