Today we had the pleasure of welcoming the Fayette County Young Ag Professionals to Quarter Pine Tree Farm for a tour of the farm.

We were honored when Haylee Bill reached out to ask if we would be interested in hosting the group. It was a wonderful opportunity to share more about our Christmas tree operation, seed processing facility, and some of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into growing trees and supporting the industry year-round.

We always enjoy connecting with others who are passionate about agriculture and learning more about the many different areas of our industry. Thank you again to everyone who spent part of their afternoon with us at the farm!

41 days until we host the West Virginia Christmas Tree Growers Association Summer Meeting and we are definitely in crunch mode trying to finish a few projects around the farm.

A couple years ago, one of our buildings lost its roof during a windstorm, and we’ve slowly been rebuilding it piece by piece ever since. Yesterday, thanks to some cooperative weather, we were finally able to pour concrete and keep the project moving forward.

There is still time to register and join us! The meeting is open to anyone interested in the Christmas tree industry, and we’re looking forward to welcoming growers and industry friends to our farms in PA & WV.

The rainy days this past week gave us the opportunity to focus on a lot of indoor projects at the farm. We’ve been busy hooking up new machines and continuing work inside the seed processing facility.

Jim has especially appreciated the knowledge he learned from Bill Herbert, who he took an electrical class with a few years ago at the Fayette County Career & Technical Institute.

One thing farming teaches you is that you need a lot of different skills in your toolbox to keep a farm running. Great teachers, educators, and technical programs truly make a difference.

Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave everything for our country. 🇺🇸

Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer. It’s a reminder of sacrifice, service, and the freedoms we enjoy because of those who never made it home.

From all of us at Quarter Pine Tree Farm, thank you to the fallen heroes and the families who carry their legacy forward. We will never forget. ❤️🤍💙

(Farmer Jim’s wife - this is not a sign for you to go there again, you are planted out. No more room 😉)

When Christmas Tree Farmers say we work ALL YEAR LONG to bring you a beautiful tree. This labor intensive TEDIOUS job of removing the conelets {some growers refer to them as baby pine cone} from the top of our Fraser Fir trees

Reasons why we remove them

Aesthetics - they disintegrate after maturing in the fall, leaving these ugly looking brown sticks that customers wouldn’t want on their Christmas Tree.

Shoot and Needle growth - my understanding as they can take energy from the tree by reducing the amount carbohydrates available for shoot and needle growth.

Quarter Pine Tree Farm has VOTED YES!!!

Quarter Pine Tree Farm has VOTED YES!!!

We urge all members to vote YES in the upcoming 2026 referendum to continue the RCTB funded by assessments.

As stated previously, the voting period for the Promotion Board (RCTB) referendum is May 22-Jun 2. The NCTA Board of Directors reviewed, approved and wish to share this official position with members and anyone else in the Christmas tree industry.

The NCTA Board of Directors believes that the success of the Christmas tree industry requires an organized effort focused on four things:
1. protecting farmers from potential threats (regulatory, public messaging, fake trees)
2. advocating rules and conditions to make farming successful (labor, labeling, taxes)
3. promoting the benefits of buying a fresh Christmas tree each year to the public
4. funding research projects to make production of trees more sustainable and successful

It is the mission of NCTA to focus its efforts on the first two of those stated above. The Real Christmas Tree Board’s mission (and authorization) is to focus on the last two stated above. NCTA was the catalyst for starting the RCTB over 15 years ago, as the leadership at that time saw the need for a Christmas tree check-off program to provide value to growers and retailers in marketing, promotion, and a research entity for our industry.

The NCTA Board of Directors believe that RCTB is fulfilling its mission and will continue to do so. We instruct our staff to coordinate and collaborate with RCTB in our efforts to fulfill our mission of protecting and advocating for Christmas tree farmers.

We urge all members to vote YES in the upcoming 2026 referendum to continue the RCTB funded by assessments.
