The first of the turkeys have hatched! Looking forward to another wonderful season! As always, my birds are raised with then utmost respect, and on pasture. Not all turkeys are processed for Thanksgiving; some are pardoned and allowed to become breeding stock for future generations. Those that do become dinner, nothing beats knowing how your turkey was raised.

Meat chickens. I’ve been asked by my 6 year old niece about my meat chickens. Why can’t we keep some? Well because they are a product of man- man had bred these birds to make them so they get big and produce a lot of meat. When that happens they cannot live a long happy life like a laying chicken due to their genetic build and make up. What will happen? Eventually their legs will eventually give out or they can have a heart attack so unfortunately they cannot live so long. But while they are not here for a long time, they will be treated with the utmost respect we can give them. They will live on a grassy pasture to scratch up bugs, in addition to their food, and soak up the sun on nice days. In response to this, my niece smiled while holding her chick and said “we’ll give them the best life ever”. That’s the best we can do.

Happy thanksgiving; from my pasture to your plate; from my family to yours. God Bless.

In the last few days I’ve had several inquiries about turkeys and pick ups. Here’s how the weekend goes- Friday is load, Saturday is up with the sun, processing and brine over night. Sunday is up early to rinse, package, and weigh. Then to sort out which bird goes to which client. This is an ALL WEEKEND AFFAIR. Please do not ask for overnight holds- at time of inquiry the point is made turkeys are to be picked up the Sunday before Thanksgiving. It is YOUR responsibility to make arrangements! This is the busiest time of the year and ask for simplicity. Thank you and have a great day!

Thanksgiving living their best life. Time is limited but they’re happy and that is all that matters. I do have a few slots left for anyone wishing to add a pasture raised Turkey to their table this holiday.

The clean up crew. Eating vegetation, bugs, whatever their hearts desire. Less than a month left, but this flock is living their best life and that makes me happy. Do you know how your bird was raised?

Living how they should, a good life.
