Beyond raising and growing food, our homestead practices the traditional skills of forging, wood carving , food preservation, herbal medicine, and many more. Customers, neighbors, friends, family, business associates, the animals, the land, we are all connected. We strive to unite people and heal the land with healthy responsibly grown food. The pastured chickens, turkey, and pork are fed non-GMO
grain that is grown, processed, and sold in North Carolina. That translates into less fossil fuel usage, local businesses being supported, animals raised as humanly as possible, and food that is beyond organic. Our beef is grass fed and finished. No grain for these bovines. A portion of each sale is set aside to provide healthy food and food education to those in our community who need it most. We practice regenerative farming techniques that create soil and add nutrients to the earth instead of depleting those resources. Our Local Farm is open for visitors, we just ask that you contact us first to ensure we are available to answer any questions you may have. It thrills us to educate people about their food and to get to know those in our community. About the Owners
Phil and Kimmie Smallwood both grew up in rural towns on acres of beautiful land where they developed a deep respect for the earth and the living creatures on it. Originally from Millinocket, ME, Phil moved to North Carolina over twenty years ago. Though trained as a master automotive technician he became intrested in regenerative farming after becoming friends with several Polyface Farm associates. His desire to farm grew as he researched and studied more about our food and farming systems in America. Though she did not originally set out to carry on the family tradition of farming, Kimmie's life has brought her full circle back to the farm. She grew up on a diverse farm in Augusta County, Virginia just several miles away from the world famous Polyface Farm. After attending NC State for her undergraduate and graduate studies she held several jobs in the Raleigh/Durham area. Since becoming a mother and farmer she has made her family and the farm her career. The Smallwods have three children; Olivia, Elisah, and Josiah. Olivia loves to read and do crafts, Elisah likes to bake and craft, and Josiah likes playing with sticks and Xbox.
