Smithton Fire Company is currently preparing for the upcoming Smok'n in the Park BBQ Competition. This year there will be a Kids play area with bounce houses and activities for them to enjoy their time at Smithton Turner Park. They will on the Smithton Turner Park outdoor stage from 7PM until 10PM. Saturday's music is a local favorite and amazing artist and musician, Miranda Bury. Miranda Bury is very well known in the Smithton area from her many performances at local events and venues. Miranda Bury will be playing on Saturday, May 30th on the Smithton Turner Park outdoor stage from 3:00PM until 6:00PM. Smithton Turner members will have plenty of cold adult beverages for everyone to enjoy, starting at 5:00 on Friday evening.
Food vending will be handled on the south end of the Turner beer stand by the Smithton Turner members group and the Vets Rolling Smoke & BBQ team will be set up by the flagpole vending BBQ food items. There is a great opportunity for the public to help a member of the VRSB team.
On Friday the 29th, at the Vets Rolling Smoke & BBQ vending site with supporting one of the original founders of Vets Rolling Smoke & BBQ Team. Some of you may know Bobby Medellin or his family members from our own Smithton Post Office. Very recently Bobby Medellin doctors discovered an 8.2 cm tumor on his spinal cord called a myxopapillary ependymoma, requiring Bobby to undergo a very delicate and complex surgery.
After scans and consultations with specialists at Washington University Medical Campus, the recommendation is to move forward with surgery sooner rather than later to help prevent long-term neurological damage.
This is not going to be a simple procedure — it will involve a team of neurosurgeons, and additional surgeries may be needed down the road. Bobby Medellin has always been the kind of person who gives without hesitation. Now it’s our turn to stand behind him. If you’re able to come out Friday May 29th to Smok'n in the Park at Smithton Turner Hall and support and donate through the purchase of a menu item at the Vets Rolling Smoke & BBQ Vending site it will matter more than you know.
The Smithton, Freeburg, Millstadt and surrounding communities have always stepped up and showed love and support for individuals and families in times of need. This is one of those special times! Please put the Smithton Fire Company's 14th Annual Smok'n in the Park BBQ Competition on your "to do" list for May 29th and 30th. Come enjoy some awesome music, cold beer, great fellowship and support the mission to help children who have been victims in fire incidents and to support our Friend and Brother Bobby Medellin and his family as they travel through these tough and trying times. There will be raffles and other items available to purchase for the event. Saturday afternoon the Smithton Fire Company will be giving away $13,000.00 in prize money to the winning professional competition BBQ teams. The atmosphere will be filled with the smell of great bbq and the sound of amazing music. We look forward to seeing you all there!"
Sincerely,
