Peter is home! ❤️🐱

We just picked Peter up from his eye surgery, and he’s now home resting comfortably.

This video was from last night, before his surgery. He’s still pretty sleepy from the anesthesia today, so we’re letting him rest in a quiet, cozy space. Once he’s a little more awake and feeling like himself again, we’ll share some updated photos.

One thing people don’t always see is how difficult it is to get photos and videos of our animals. As soon as we walk into an enclosure or sit down with them, they just want to be with us. They rub against us, climb into our laps, and soak up every bit of love and attention they can get. Most of the time, unless someone else is holding the camera, all you get is a close-up of a very affectionate animal. ❤️

To us, that’s one of the biggest signs that we’re doing something right. Many of the animals that come to Happy Hearts Farm & Sanctuary have never known consistency, kindness, or what it feels like to simply be loved. Watching them learn to trust again is one of the greatest rewards.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to our incredible anonymous donor who generously covered Peter’s entire surgery. Because of your kindness, the full $320 cost of his procedure was covered, giving Peter the care he needed without hesitation. Your generosity truly changed his future, and we are beyond grateful.

Thank you to everyone who has followed Peter’s journey, shared his story, and rooted for him along the way.

Now it’s Peter’s turn to rest, heal, and enjoy being spoiled. We’ll post more updates and photos once he’s feeling a little less groggy.

Three years ago, this beautiful Mallard was one of the very first ducks we ever rescued. ❤️🦆

She arrived here with three other ducks, making a flock of four. Today, three of those original ducks are still with us. Sadly, we lost one about a year ago due to health issues, but these three continue to remind us every day why rescue is so rewarding.

With temperatures in the 80s and 90s, I turned the hose on to fill the duck pool, and she climbed right in and stayed there the entire time. She absolutely loved having the water spraying over her like a warm summer rain. She was in absolute heaven and had no intention of getting out!

And before anyone asks… yes, the pools are cleaned every day—often twice a day during the summer. 😄 Ducks can turn fresh, clean water into muddy water in what feels like two seconds, but making sure they always have clean water is part of caring for them.

Watching one of our very first rescues living such a carefree, happy life fills my heart. This is what rescue is all about—not just saving lives, but giving animals the chance to truly enjoy them.

Molly Monday 💜🌸 Molly in Astoria OR 🩷is still looking for a loving home 🩷 This super friendly and welcoming 6 year old needs a new home. Molly’s family is expecting another little and with no fenced yard, or a way for her to get her energy out; her family feels shes a little too rambunctious for small children. Molly is great with kitties, and has lived with a senior Lab her whole life, but we feel she would do best in a home with older kiddos, kitties and as an only dog. She Must have a fenced yard for zoomies. Her new little is coming soon, and we really need to get her adopted ! 💙 From Pain to Purrs: Peter’s Journey to a Better Life 🐱

Meet Peter, one of the sweetest souls here at Happy Hearts Farm & Sanctuary. This handsome blue Russian boy is currently looking for his forever home and getting a fresh start on life!

On June 24th, Peter will be undergoing surgery to repair a condition called entropion.

What is Entropion?

Entropion occurs when the eyelid rolls inward, causing the eyelashes and surrounding fur to rub against the surface of the eye. This constant irritation can be painful and uncomfortable, often causing excessive tearing, squinting, redness, and discharge.

Why Is Surgery Important?

If left untreated, entropion can lead to:
🐾 Chronic eye pain and irritation
🐾 Corneal ulcers and scarring
🐾 Recurrent eye infections
🐾 Vision loss in severe cases

Fortunately, entropion repair is a common procedure with an excellent prognosis. Once healed, most cats go on to live happy, comfortable lives free from the pain and irritation they’ve been experiencing.

Despite everything, Peter remains incredibly loving, gentle, and affectionate. He never lets his discomfort stop him from seeking attention, purring, or reminding us what a wonderful companion he is.

Peter would love to be someone’s inside/outside cat. He isn’t particularly fond of other cats, but he does very well with dogs. When Peter first came to us, he didn’t really understand how to play or interact gently with people. We’ve spent a lot of time working with him, building trust and teaching him appropriate boundaries. We’re proud to say that he now keeps his claws in most of the time and has made tremendous progress.

We are hopeful that after his surgery, Peter will finally be able to experience the comfort he deserves—and we’d love nothing more than for him to recover in a home of his own.

🐷 Arlo’s Happy Place 🐷

This is Arlo, one of our Idaho Pasture Pig boars, enjoying life exactly as it should be—stretched out on a fresh bed of hay, soaking up scratches, and taking a well-deserved nap. ❤️

It’s hard for some people to believe that this gentle giant weighs somewhere between 500 and 600 pounds. Despite his size, Arlo is a sweetheart who loves attention and enjoys spending time with the people he trusts.

Pigs are incredibly intelligent, emotional animals with unique personalities. Arlo is a great reminder that farm animals aren’t just livestock—they form bonds, seek comfort, and enjoy affection just like any other animal.

Watching this big boy completely relax and drift off to sleep while getting pets is one of those simple moments that makes all the hard work worth it. 🐷💚
