Some dahlias are popular for a season. Others become legends.

Chateau De La Bourdaisière is one of those varieties that lives up to every bit of the hype. Her unique blend of soft pink and terracotta is unlike anything else in the garden, and the way she cups up at dusk is simply perfection.

Hybridized in France in 2008, she remains one of the most beloved dahlias for a reason. Please tell me you were able to snag one in the dahlia sales this year? 🤍

I’m embarrassed to admit how many Hollyhill Daydream tubers I planted this year! 🙈

The most beautiful coral waterlily blooms, incredible color, and a presence that always catches my eye in the field. She likes to start cupping on the evening a little later than some of my other waterlilies, but she is so worth it!

I absolutely swooned over Mission Abyss last year. She is a smaller bloom with the most stunning burgundy purple coloring with lots of depth.

Rows of reds and raspberries are into the ground today- including lots of Missis Miley because I love her so much!

I am officially about 2/3 of the way done planting and it finally feels like dahlia season is right around the corner. The long days, sore backs, dirty hands, and endless tubers are all worth it for those first blooms glowing in the summer light.

Every row planted feels one step closer to flower-filled mornings and armfuls of blooms. ♥️✨

Rows and rows of tubers eventually turn into bouquets like this. Handfuls of AC Twisp and My Forever, two varieties that I will grow forever. The planning that goes into a dahlia garden is almost as satisfying as the blooms themselves… almost.

It’s easy to fall in love with the blooms… the soft peaches, glowing pinks, and armfuls of flowers that make all the hard work feel worth it 🌸✨

But before we ever get bouquets like this, there are thousands of tubers to plant, rows to prep, dirt under every fingernail, and long exhausting days in the field. This season especially has felt like a complete whirlwind trying to get everything in the ground.

Every single bloom starts as a humble tuber and a whole lot of hope. And honestly? That transformation never stops feeling magical 💕
